Lovely 5 BR oceanfront home in Croatan, Virginia Beach in Virginia Beach

Owners response: I am aware of the concerns of this renter and have addressed them directly with him through an apology and partial refund of his rental. I try my best to provide a great experience for my renters and am truly sorry that these renters were unhappy.
We advertise the property as oceanfront because that is the nearest description to accurately describe this unique location; the ocean is directly in front of the house with two empty lots, a beach access, and no obstructions. One of the photos clearly shows the ocean view as seen from the house; it is not as "limited" as some houses on the ocean that have larger homes right beside them. My prices are in line with semi-ocean front properties, so most people see this as an advantage.
There is not one single item of furniture in the house that is from Ikea or even in the style of Ikea. As seen in my photos, the furniture is typical of the style of most beach cottages, and was all purchased new in 2006. The house is in need of fresh paint, which is planned for winter of 2012. The description does not specify that the TV's are flat screen. This was an off-season rental, which is rare for us. In-season, the house is completely cleaned and checked within an hour of each guest's arrival, every Saturday. In this case, there had not been renters in the house for several months. The house had been cleaned one week prior; my house cleaner assured me that the house was thoroughly cleaned, but admitted that she had not cleaned behind some furniture because of a back problem; I will be exploring a new cleaning service for next summer's rentals. My maintenance man does address issues as they arrive, and he is ALWAYS prompt and bends over backward to make things right. In this case, when I got the message, I called him late on the Wed. night before Thanksgiving, and he gave up his evening plans to go over to the house promptly and corrected all the concerns. The issue of my not getting the message has been corrected; I now will instruct renters not to leave a message on my cell phone, as it is unreliable, and to try me at all three numbers. Only one call was made to me on one of my three numbers and I returned the call IMMEDIATELY after receiving the message, which I ALWAYS do.
All concerns of this owner have been addressed and corrected. This was an unfortunate case; had I gotten the cell phone message on time, I am confident I could have corrected all of these issues to the renters' satisfaction.
