Email this listing to a friendVacation Rental Owner/ManagerName: Robert ButlerAvailability: Check Calendar Vacation Rental DescriptionThe rustic “Green Cottage” is a one room cabin (20’ x 22’) with a natural pine floor and a pine tongue & grove ceiling supported by reclaimed barn timbers. There is a sturdy oak queen size bed, and a bunk bed. The wicker set for lounging, and an antique oak dining table round out the furnishings. The large front yard with a fire pit near the waterfall offers a magnificent view of the lake and its wondrous sunsets. Hammocks adorn the tall oaks. This idyllic cottage is the smaller of two cottages nestled between two streams on 175 feet of Cayuga’s east shore. The tall trees, dirt road and old-fashioned structures give the place a sense of remoteness, though located within minutes of Cornell, downtown and the Ithaca malls. The north stream sports a 20 foot high waterfall. In the summer, both streams are dry except for during and after rainstorms. The adventuresome can take a cool, short hike eastward into small gorges flanked by stands of hemlock and hardwoods which are laced with steep deer trails. It is located midway between Remington Point (with a small marina & sailing club) and Myer’s Point (with a marina and a lovely park)—at a low spot of the east shore cliffs, so that it is only about 20 steps down to the Lake. There are train tracks along the shore--the freight train comes by rather slowly about twice a day. The shoreline is strewn with flat pebbles which are ideal for “skipping stones.” Rules Guests are expected to share the 2 large docks, thus enjoying the full frontage between the streams. Fishing is allowed from the docks, but swimmers have the right of way, so please be considerate and don’t leave around any tackle, bait or fish parts. Shoes are recommended, if wading or swimming from the shore. Outdoor fires are permitted in the fire pit only (or grill). Do not cut wood from the forest or in any way deface the trees or natural surroundings. Swimming, boating or any activities on or near the property are strictly at your own risk. When you hear the train coming, stay a safe distance away—at the top of the stairs or at the end of the dock. Please be considerate of the neighboring residents, and observe reasonable quiet hours. No smoking allowed inside. Smokers (and everyone)—please do not litter! Please use recycling bins. The running water is not potable, but suitable for washing. Please bring your own drinking water. The bedding is furnished. Please bring towels. Vacation Rental AmenitiesThe kitchenette is fully furnished with fridge, small microwave, etc. and an electric cooktop, but no oven. There is an antique clawfoot bath tub with shower. No entertainment electronics, but wireless internet is available. Linens are supplied. Bring towels and drinking water. Guests are asked to leave the cottage clean. Activities and AttractionsCayuga is the longest lake (42 miles) and next-to-deepest lake (475 feet) of the Finger Lakes Region in Upstate New York. People say “Ithaca is Gorges” because of the many gorgeous geological formations in the area. State Parks, special swimming spots, fine fishing and hiking trails abound. Not to mention the many cultural and educational activities offered in the area. There is a boat lift available and kayaks and canoes are rentable in the surrounding area. If you have a motorboat, it’s an easy ride to the Myer’s Park & marina. The Ithaca Yacht Club is across the Lake. It’s a little further to Taughannock Falls State Park (to the North) or to the Ithaca Inlet, Allen H. Treman State Park & Marina, and the lovely Stewart Park (to the South). Ithaca’s wonderful Farmer’s Market is also accessible by boat on the Inlet. All within 5 miles by water! This is a spot for the whole family to enjoy and create treasured memories. Vacation Rental RatesThe rent is $600 per week from June 22 to Labor Day; $400 before or after these dates. A $200 reservation & cleaning deposit is required, which will be refunded when the cottage is left as you found it. The rent is due upon arrival. The cottages are generally rented from Sunday @ 3 p.m. to the following Sunday @ 1 p.m. Other arrangements are possible. This rustic “Green Cottage" can be rented with the adjacent 2 bedroom “Yellow Cottage” for larger groups or families. See listing #39838. Cayuga Lake New York Vacation Rentals
