Rustic Cayuga East Shore Cabin near Ithaca & Cornell in Cayuga Lake

Cayuga Lake Cabin Rental Picture Cayuga Lake Cabin Vacation Rental Picture

vacation rental description

This place is not for everyone: A vintage outdoor privy ("the outhouse") is available only, at this time. A modern bathroom is under contruction. When rented with the 2-bedroom cottage next door, the bathroom there can serve both cottages. See listing #39838.

This rustic cabin is one large room (20’ x 22’) with a natural pine floor and a pine tongue & groove ceiling supported by reclaimed barn timbers. There is a sturdy oak queen size bed. A wicker set for lounging, and an antique oak dining table round out the furnishings. The front yard with a fire pit near the waterfall offers a magnificent view of the lake. The sunset vistas are truly wonderful. Hammocks adorn the tall oaks and huge maples.

This idyllic cabin is the smaller of two cottages nestled between two streams on 175 feet of Cayuga’s east shore. The tall trees, dirt road and old-fashioned structures give the place a sense of remoteness, though located within minutes of Cornell, downtown and the Ithaca malls. The north stream sports a 20 foot high waterfall. In the summer, both streams are dry except for during and after rainstorms. The adventuresome can take a cool, short hike eastward into small gorges flanked by stands of hemlock and hardwoods which are laced with steep deer trails.

It's located about 5 miles north of Ithaca and there are only about 20 steps down to the Lake. There are train tracks along the shore--the salt train comes by rather slowly and infrequently. The shoreline is strewn with flat pebbles which are ideal for “skipping stones.”

Rules and Information

Guests are expected to be considerate of the neighboring residents, and observe reasonable quiet
hours.

Swimming, boating or any activities on or near the property are strictly at your own risk.

Fishing is allowed from the dock, but swimmers have the right of way, so please be

Outdoor fires are permitted in the fire pit only (or grill). Firewood is available. Do not
cut green wood from the forest or in any way deface the trees or natural surroundings.

No smoking allowed inside. Smokers (and everyone)—please do not litter!

cabin rental amenities

The clean, antique outdoor privy makes this a truly "rustic" cottage. The kitchenette is fully
furnished with fridge, small microwave, etc. and an electric cooktop, but no oven. There is an
antique clawfoot bath tub with shower. Wireless internet is available.

Outdoors there is a picnic table, hammock and lawn chairs.

The running water comes directly from the lake, so you must bring your drinking water.
Please bring your own towels and linens. Pillows and covers are supplied.

Guests are asked to leave the cabin as clean and tidy as they found it.

activities and attractions in Cayuga Lake Finger Lakes

Cayuga is the longest lake (42 miles) and next-to-deepest lake (475 feet) of the Finger Lakes Region
in Upstate New York. People say “Ithaca is Gorges” because of the many gorgeous geological
formations in the area. State Parks, special swimming spots, fine fishing and hiking trails
abound. Not to mention the many cultural and educational activities offered in the area.

A large dock is directly in front of the cottage. There is a rowboat and canoe available. Kayaks are rentable in the surrounding area. If you have a motorboat, it’s an easy ride to the Myer’s Park & Marina. The Ithaca Yacht Club is across the Lake. It’s a little further to Taughannock Falls State Park (to the North) or to the Ithaca Inlet, Allen H. Treman State Park & Marina, and the lovely Stewart Park (to the South). Ithaca’s wonderful Farmer’s Market is also accessible by boat on the Inlet. All within 5 miles by water!

This is a spot for the whole family to enjoy and create treasured memories. A recent visitor
commented that it "...is an incredibly special spot on the lake, and it is so nice that the rustic
character is being maintained on the end of that road, in spite of the gigantic houses that are
being constructed just up the way...the cottages are delightful"

vacation rental rates

The rent is $600/week during the summer season; $500 spring & fall. A deposit of 50% of the rent reserves the cottage.  This deposit may be forfeited if the reservation is cancelled less than one month before the arrival date. A $200 security & cleaning deposit is required, which will be refunded
when the cottage is left as you found it. The balance of the rent plus the security deposit is due upon arrival by check or cash.  The pet fee is an additional $50 with the rent.

The cabin is generally rented from Saturday @ 3 pm to the following Saturday @ 11 am.  This rustic cabin can be rented with the adjacent 2-bedroom cottage for larger groups or families. See listing #39838.
