vacation rental description

Built the winter of 2007-08. It was built with your vacation in mind, a place having some illusion of being rustic yet beautiful and with all the comforts and conveniences of home. Except for the bathroom the floors are eastern white pine, portions of some walls have been left unfinished and it has a vaulted ceiling. Pictures can't convey the ambiance. You have to see it. Especially in the evenings. So, if you want something special. You don't want to walk into a rental that looks like the house you just left. Then this may be the place for you!

activities and attractions in Acadia Maine

Although the park is flat out gorgeous and there's no denying that. There's more to Schoodic Point than just the park. Less commercialized than the big tourist hotspots we have allot to offer visitors. Especially those guests who desire a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere. But even those desiring days of crowds, shopping and non stop activities can have the needs easily met here. That's one of the beauties of a vacation or living here. You can have remote, secluded, quiet or crowds anytime you want, it's your call.

Explore and enjoy the area with its many beauties and relaxed pace. From here all the shops, businesses, stores and restaurants are just a short walk. You can rent bikes and kayaks for exploring or play golf. Bob's is about the cheapest place around to buy lobsters and his sons bring them in daily. If you are here when the lobsters are shedding their shells do yourself a favor and try them. They are tender and sweet and what most locals prefer. And because they are so fragile and don't ship easily you generally can't get them anywhere else but here.

During the tourist season there is a free shuttle bus service partly sponsored by L.L. Bean that tours the park and area before returning. The bus runs every half hour or so and stops are scattered. Not that it matters since the drivers are more than happy to pick you up if you wave them down from the side of the road. Anyway in the immediate area there are shops, stores, restaurants, piers and pounds to buy your lobsters plus a lot more. On Grindstone Neck there is a golf course that is sandwiched by ocean on both sides. If you really enjoy the ocean and don't mind getting wet then rent or bring a kayak and meander through the bays and coves. Ride out and see the seals basking on the rocks on the other side of Turtle Island, the osprey nesting near the Halibut Hole or the lighthouse on Mark Island.

Throughout the year there are different programs, theaters, concerts, dances and many other cultural events mostly on weekends. Then during the summer there is an arts festival for two weeks which usually starts around the first of August. But still overall it's generally quiet here (compared to where you probably live) except for the lobster festival and a few other things. Once a year the entire area goes on holiday. Usually the second Saturday in August. The day starts off with a 5k road race in the morning and ends with a parade in the evening. Of course there are lobster dinners, barbecues and allot of other things. It's always a good time.

Less than a mile up Main Street is the park. There is no entrance fee required. The view from the road that loops around the point is magnificent. You can while the day away relaxing and taking in the spectacular views of the islands, sea and wildlife. Wander out on the rocks and picnic or bring back mussels for dinner. Have a cook out or lobster bake and relax into the evening around the campfire if you like listening to the loons after dark at Fraziers Point where there are picnic tables and fire pits for barbecues.. On any given day you'll see lobster boats pulling in the days catch and eagles soaring about the harbor. On other days you can watch the sail boats from the Winter Harbor Yacht Club race.

Schoodic Head, the highest point. Its 440 foot peak offers panoramic views straight out into the open Atlantic Ocean, Frenchman Bay and Cadillac Mountain to the west. On a clear day you can see the Pettit Mannan lighthouse and preserve on the next peninsula over. And don't forget the view from the Overlook.

The most southern tip of the point, has granite outcroppings and pounding surf. People come from all over to watch the surf as storms or hurricanes passing by sometimes hundreds of miles away break against the rocks and throw spray fifty feet or more in the air. It really is something to see. There is ample parking space for visitors and it is well worth the trip any day.

Whatever you desire, sightseeing, shopping, hiking, biking, kayaking, the list goes on. You can have it or get to it from here.

I could go on and on but I met someone at the docks last year from NJ and he summed it up better than I can "its like being in heaven". Do yourself a favor this year, come see!
