Enjoy a family vacation in the small, friendly Vermont village of Jamaica, located in the West River
Valley (which rates one star in the Michelin Guide). Skiers: Ten minutes drive to Stratton, twenty
to Bromley. With a home in Jamaica, you have tranquility and space with freedom to potter around,
plus all services nearby. Thus you can shop, go to dinner, walk or cross-country ski in the State
Park - all without getting in the car, or crossing a main road. (Ideal for children.) This is a
house that is ideal for a vacation any time of the year - rents by the week in Summer and Fall, but
for the winter, it is only rented for a five-month lease (no short-term rentals in the winter).
This is a traditional white frame house (built around 1815) on a side street off the Main Street.
It has a porch with rocking chairs plus a sun deck off the living room. Attached is a big red barn,
witih parking for two cars. There is acre of garden, with a brook running along one side.
Is perfect for the single person who wants a quiet retreat, or a family with children (who can
explore the neighborhood on their own. Note: for those who dislike stairs, all amenities are
available on the first floor: the TV room has a sofa which folds out into a bed, and the two full
bathrooms are just off the kitchen.
House has been lovingly maintained, is very well equipped, and retains its character. The
furnishings reflect the English background and extensive travels of the owner, with pottery,
paintings, and wall hangings from around the globe, but especially from Britain.)
For skiers, the house is on a plowed road, with a mud room for leaving the skis and boots. The
living room has a woodburning stove, and wood is stored in the attached barn. The entrance to
Stratton Mountain is ten miniutes away, Bromley Mountain is twenty minutes, and Mt. Snow just
thirty.
This is the perfect area for summer holidays, ideal for enjoying Fall Foliage, and a great location
for skiers. In summer and fall you can drive or hike around the small villages, visit antique shops
and flea markets, enjoy summer theater and music festivals, plus craft fairs and art shows. There
is also an extensive array of sports such as swimming, canoeing, riding, tennis and golf. And fresh
fruits and vegetables can be bought nearby - or pick your own.
