Home Away from Home

Ruth & Allan (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada)
Review submitted: April 1, 2010   Date of arrival: March 1, 2010

The house was laid out very well for one family or 2 couples to share. The bedrooms and bathrooms were far enough apart for maximum privacy. The house was clean and very tastefully decorated. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with dishes, glasses, cutlery, good quality pots and pans and great appliances. The refrigerator with an icemaker was my favourite. Having a dishwasher made cleanup easy after meals. Laundry facilities right on site was a terrific bonus. Both bathrooms had showers. The furniture was actually very comfortable, not just functional as it is in many rental properties.

A wonderful welcome basket stuffed with many treats greeted our arrival. Gayle and Tony provided us with a Fry's card which saved us many dollars on our grocery bills and gas. They also recommended restaurants and an adult centre where we could play Bridge. We were given excellent directions to the property. There are loads of maps and brochures about attractions in the area in the house. There were enough books in the house to keep four of us reading for the whole month.

There are a number of grocery stores and pharmacies nearby. The Prescott Mall is a great place to spend rainy days. The Public Library in Prescott also sells many books at very reasonable prices. There are numerous restaurants in the area. Our favourite place to eat was Shannons on Gurley Street. The wraps and cheesecakes are fabulous.

Do soak up some local history by following the walking guide of Historic Prescott (available at the Tourist Information on Goodwin Street). We loved hiking the trails around Lynx Lake and Watson Lake. Jerome and Sedona are easy and interesting day trips. Oak Creek Canyon (between Sedona and Flagstaff) is a very scenic drive. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is fascinating but do plan to spend 1 or 2 nights in Chinle to make the most of it.

We had a wonderful holiday, thanks to the friendliness of the people we met in Prescott area and the helpfulness of our hosts.

Nice place to visit

Review submitted: March 29, 2010   Date of arrival: February 5, 2010

Comfortable, clean, handsomely decorated detached house equipped with all modern amenities. A fine place for grandparents to visit nearby children. Accommodated a couple for ten days; son, daughter and grandchild for a weekend. Hosts graciously provided snacks, and many staples were in the pantry (salt, pepper, napkins, plastic bags). Small, private walled yard. Highly recommended.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway
