vacation rental description

Congratulations! You have found one of the best vacation rentals on the North Coast! We rented vacation homes in the area for years, before retiring and building our own home away from home, in this beautiful rural setting. We considered our rental experiences (good and bad). It was our goal to create the perfect experience for you in design, function and ammenities. From all the wonderful comments shared with us by our prior guests, we've been very successful! Seahorse Cottage is perched on the top of a 3.5 acre bluff, with a 180 degree ocean/white water view that features the Albion Bay, redwood forests, grasslands, the Albion River, and the last wooden bridge to span Highway 1. (NOTE: The photos here don't accurately reflect our close proximity to the water's edge, as they were taken to provide more of a panorama.) Please feel free to email us so we can provide our website address and a video slide show. We want you to fully experience all that Seahorse Cottage has to offer! Ours is a welcoming home of warmth and romantic energy. (We've hosted several small wedding parties and quite a few honeymoon and anniversary getaways.) Speaking of which, we're happy to offer assistance in planning a special occasion.

Our location, perched above the Albion Bay/River, demanded a highly engineered bio septic system.  Accordingly, we must limit our guest number to a MAXIMUM OF FOUR  with a possible fifth if a small child or infant. K-9 kids with Advanced Approval Only. Thank You!

Our amazing retreat was built with luxury and enjoyment in mind. The details, furnishings and decor reflect the care and love we have for our little piece of paradise. We take a great deal of pleasure in being able to share it with vacationers who are looking for something special in a vacation home - that feeling of being truly "home", not just in a rental property. At Seahorse we strive to anticipate your every need while traveling. Our home is spotless, lovingly maintained and so cozy you'll never want to leave! Come see for yourself!

Note!  Please contact us directly to determine availability as we do not utilize the site calendar (other than for major holiday periods).  Thanks!

A Getaway In Itself

Review submitted: June 23, 2014   Date of arrival: June 20, 2014

We had booked Seahorse Cottage as our base and launch pad to explore Mendocino and as far north as the attractions in Leggett. But if there's anything we could change about our itinerary, it would be to just make Seahorse Cottage an attraction in its own right. It promises comfort and luxury melded into one perfect cottage that offers superb views of the Albion River Bridge from atop the ridge and awesome sunsets. I love that all the rooms generously let in natural light. Sitting at the dining table and peering out into the lush and lovely garden allows you glimpses of the hummingbirds that stop to feed.

For a quiet, undisturbed retreat into the hills and with magnificent views you could enjoy from dawn to dusk, it'll be tough to fine something that trumps Seahorse Cottage. The cottage was clean, the garden well-tended and the cottage well stocked. Looking forward to our next trip back for some peace and quiet amid the hum drum of city living...and maybe get some journaling done on the patio.

Recommended for: age 55+, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: Wow! Thank you! We are both honored and humbled by such a generous expression. We are blessed beyond measure with our location and views and we strive to insure that our home is a retreat for the body and soul. Our guests, and their comfort and experience, is of paramount importance to us. We're so please when someone is able to make that special connection to the 'spirit' that is Seahorse Cottage.

Visitors from New Mexico!

Review submitted: April 14, 2014   Date of arrival: April 4, 2014

Dear Nancy, Frank & Marley,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We cooked up some great meals in your well equipped kitchen and took advantage of a few of the local restaurants - my favorite was probably "Wild Fish" (the duck was incredible) but the Albion River Inn was fabulous and so close!

Duke and Rex (our dogs) felt right at home and loved our long walks. They'll definitely want to come with us when we come back - next time for much longer!

Fish, Food & Cookies (Minnesota Guests)

Review submitted: February 20, 2014   Date of arrival: November 18, 2013

Love this place, this house, etc. Many thanks!! Courtesy of Simon, especially, we ate every shellfish imaginable (100 oysters from the Hog Island Company in Marshall, MI, a few crabs, mussels, clams, salmon, etc., etc.) Had dinner at the Albion River Inn - lovely and good food too. Our most successful whale watching spots were MacKerricher State park, north of Fort Bragg and Point Arena. Saw lots of Whales!! We highly recommend the River's End in Jenner for the gorgeous deck views of sea lions and unusual (though expensive) good food. Don't miss the Highlight Gallery in Mendocino, and the chocolate chip cookies at the bakery in Mendo, just down from Harvest market. Best to all. So glad to discover this spot!!
