traveler reviews for this lake wallenpaupack house rental

Nice Cabin, excellent value.

Review submitted: June 14, 2013   Date of arrival: May 24, 2013

We found this cabin very nice, a the best value for the money, and we had a great weekend. David was a pleasure to work with and very flexible. He helped us short-notice in figuring out how to accommodate 3 families that were meeting for Memorial Day weekend. He was very responsive and helpful during all phases of the rental process. The cabin was very clean and smelled fresh on our arrival. It is not large, but is bigger than we anticipated based off the photos and met our needs perfectly. We especially enjoyed the fact that it sits on a relatively large piece of land which our kids enjoyed playing on. Also a stand-out feature is the fire pit which we had an absolutely great time with all the kids at when we made smokes one evening. The only reason I didn't give the property was a five is that because the land is relatively large and the house sits up the hill from the lake a little ways, we couldn't really see the lake very well from the deck because of the leaves on the trees. However, all properties have their strengths and weaknesses and this cabin worked great for us and we had a excellent weekend without breaking the bank. A great value.

Great Setting for Quick Getaway

Review submitted: June 13, 2013   Date of arrival: May 17, 2013

My friends were looking for a getaway weekend and a good central location between NY and Philly. We decided on Lake Wallenpaupack and found this cabin’s listing. I’ve stayed on the Lake before and a lot of the homes are on tiny pieces of property, with neighboring houses just 10 -15 feet away on either side and parking issues. What I liked about this place was that you really got a feeling that you were getting away. The house is located at the end of a private gravel road and it’s on a big piece of wooded property, so we felt like we were away from it all. We had no problem parking the 4 cars we came up with and we spent both Friday and Sat night around the campfire circle and then spent most of the day down at the dock. Sunsets are amazing! It’s hard to imagine a prettier place to be on the lake.
The house was clean and has a large living room, a kitchen and dining area and 4 bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has an angled ceiling with a queen air mattress, the others are larger rooms. There are some good places for dinner nearby, The Boat House had some live bands both nights and a pretty good sports bar set up. Definitely a great place for a quick getaway. We might make this an annual thing

So So

Review submitted: June 10, 2013   Date of arrival: May 31, 2013

The area is beautiful, however, the house could have been maintained better. The screen door was covered in duct tape, therefore, we were not able to keep the door open since the woods are surrounded by insects, also since the temperature was in the 90's all weekend, it would have been nice to keep the door open for some fresh air. The house only had air conditioners in 2 of the 3 bedrooms, therefore, the third bedroom was unusable due to the heat on the 3rd floor. In spite of all this, my family and I had a great time on the lake and did love the fact that the property had a boat dock just a short distance away from the house. We also loved the boat dock for fishing. I don't think that the house was nice enough for the amount that we paid. We would definitely come back to the area for another vacation, but will look for another property.

Owners response: Thank for your initial response to my email last week in which I asked if there was anything we could improve upon. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the lake, but sorry to hear that you felt the cabin was not up to your standards. When I emailed you to let you know that I would not be charging you for the bed frame that you broke, I also asked you for any constructive criticism, some of which you repeated today in this public post. Ironically, we replaced the old screen door which took a beating this winter with a new wooden door hours after you check out. I certainly wish we had gotten to it sooner. In your private email you made mention of the inability to open the screen door for a breeze. There are three very large windows which face out toward the lake and each is screened in. I think if you had opened these windows, you would have had plenty of fresh air as they face the lake and run almost the whole width of the house.

In your email response, you also expressed disappointment that the inflatable mattress in the fourth bedroom was deflated, and therefore you could not use it. The mattress is stored deflated and and has an automatic pump which inflates the mattress within a couple of minutes. I thought this was understood by most guests, but apparently I was mistaken and I should place instructions in the room for future guests. You also made the valid suggestion that we clean the exterior of the house. I spent much of this past Sunday doing just that, as well as sweeping the roof and putting flowers in our gardens.

Prospective Guests should be aware that the cabin is located on a wooded, private, rustic acre, with trees, campfire setting and paths that lead to the lake. I think the photos pretty accurately reflect that. For some people, this is exactly what they are looking for when the book the cabin. Unfortunately this guest was disappointed. Perhaps our chalet, which is located next door and is more modern would have been a better choice for this guest.

Either way, constructive criticism is always appreciated and we try to be responsive to any of our guests valid concerns.
