vacation rental description
This Ocean View home is at the best public Whale Watching spot (Brother Jonathan Point/Fraser Park)
along Pebble Beach! Crab Boats head out to Sea from the Harbor less than a mile away. The House
faces West at the Park, where new children's play ground structures have been built (with basketball
and softball fields) and the famous Battery Point Lighthouse and Ocean View is to the South, and
Castle Rock Island, the Bird and Sea Lion Sanctuary is also within view just to the north from the
Point.
Our airport is only 3 miles away, with connections from San Francisco and Los Angelas via
Sacramento and Arcata. Even Groceries, Pharmacy, Shopping, Restaurants, Coffee Shops, the
Fairgrounds, Home Depot, and the Fireworks jetty, are all within about 13 blocks! That is walking
distance for some, biking distance for others, and a very short driving experience that can include
a shoreline drive along Pebble Beach Drive
cottage rental amenities
Your vacation home will be warm and casual inside, and fully furnished, including beach chairs. It
also has writing desk with FAX machine and Printer, though we are only blocks from "Tech Town" Hi-
Speed Broadband Internet service at only about $5 per hour, and two WI-FI coffee shops, including
Starbucks! We are only about 9 blocks from the Marine Mammal rescue Center and shop, and the
friendly Chamber of Commerce that have a large display of information about the many many things to
do in this the County center of Redwood Country.
We have maps and brochures also, extra blankets, a Washer/Dryer for your Clothes, and a Dishwasher
and Garbage Disposal. We have Free local phone calls, a Garage Door Opener, an Answering Machine, a
Satellite Dish TV with DVD player, VCR, and Music CD player, including a small library of films for
emergenies when you are just too warm and cozy to go down to Spotlight Video.
Ready to go is our Fireplace and wood supply, just in case the power goes out and the clean Electric
Furnance will not work. (It never freezes here, and a hot day is well, comfortably moderate.)
We also have an ironing board, (but never use it. ;-)
Our Bikes are located in our Green House/ Work Shop that extends to the Garage and is connected to
the house, for a dry walk to the car. The Sun room is usually toasty all day, over looking a
fenced back yard which we are developing into a very private garden courtyard. We also have a full
kitchen, with view of the back yard, and a new stainless steel refrigerator.
activities and attractions in Crescent City North Coast
For Whale Watchers and Kayaking, we have immediate access and no crowds. It's great. But you can
also rent a helicoptor to go see historical St. George Lighthouse that is 7 miles off shore. You
can take a sand dunes walk at Point St. George, which towers over Pelican Bay to the north. We have
real flocks of Pelicans. Botanical tours are available for the shoreline, but also for wetlands at
Lske Earl, which is also close, and for the absolutely majestic and beautiful Redwood Forests and
Smith River, where Trout and Salmon fishing abound, and where actual wild flowers can be seen in the
Spring.
The City and County have many annual events, including occasional Crab races, but also an Aleution
Goose Festival (the geese gather here in hoards for a major meeting every year), a 4th of July
weekend event that draws many thousands from all over Del Norte County, swelling the City from its
normal 8000 people to ten to twenty thousand. You can even pre-register to be in the "H"
Street "downtown" Fourth of July parade. There are Longboard Surfing competitions, a
Whale Watching Tour boat, and a really colorful Kite Flying gathering drawing enthusiasts from as
far as Oregon (well... 20 miles). Gold Beach (50 miles) at the Rogue River is where Jet Boat
Rides are popular, if you've already been to the famous Klamath River (20 miles) Jet Boat Rides.
Drop by the Trees of Mystery on the way home to take s short hike among trees that seem to have
personalities, or take a drive just south of the Klamath through a major State Park with ferns (and
a very rare mountain lion). Just south are the Roosevelt Elk herds, if you drive by the meadows
along Rt101 south of Klamath.
Whew! Oh, and yes, you can buy fresh-off-the-boat Dungeness Crab at a real Commercial Fishing
Harbor in the Winter, and drop by the friendly Elk Valley Casino in the evening and get free Pepsi.
There's more, but that's all that I can think of right now. Check the end table drawer at the
Cottage beside the Lazy Boy for more.
In deep Summer, when the Central Valley is very hot, you can expect cool Marine Fog at the Cottage,
mainly in the morning.
In the Spring, you can see the Forests at their freshest and rain-washed best. In the Fall, you
can see the most Sun, from Labor Day until Christmas. The later part of that period is
when the Whales are coming back North on their ancient yearly migration back to Alaska, from
Mexico. So, when are you coming?
