This was our first time renting a beach house and it was great. There were a few things that misled us in the description, but over all it was very nice. Some of the things that misled us;in the decsription it states that it is DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH, it is NOT directly on the beach,VERY close but you have to cross over Ocean Avenue and a dune to be technically on the beach. There was only 1 lounge chair and no rafts or floats of any kind. The screen door on the Master bedroom sliding glass door had been broken off and lying on the deck and the microwave had broken prior to us arriving and it took 3 1/2 days to get it fixed. Light bulbs were out in alot of the sockets, mainly upstairs. I know it sounds as though I am full of complaints, but over all it was a great house in a great location. The house is only 4 or 5 years old, so that makes it nice compared to some of the runned down beach house for rent in the area.

Recommended for: families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway

Our Week's stay in July 2010

We had a great family reunion. Our son-in-law's family has a house down the street. We needed more room and just happened upon this house which was only 8 houses away. It was perfect for us, one son and daughter-in-law and two children. The beach is right there and the pool was a big hit. Fernandina is a great place to shop and eat, we got out in a boat and saw manatees and dolphin. And some of the family went to St. Augustine, and Savannah We do have a few recommendations: mirrors and bedside lamps in the bedrooms, more and better quality towels and washcloths (what's there is skimpy and mismatched), more coffee mugs, a lamp by the second chair in the living room, extra chairs around the dining table, instructions on how to set the thermostat (it was set at 72 and we froze - could not adjust it no matter what we did). There were deflated pool floats laying around the pool, our back steps, and down below that probably should be discarded. Was there an iron and ironing board? If so, I missed it. We would recommend this place and will probably to back there.
Too many stairs for anyone who is disabled. Pets are not allowed.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway
