Total Relaxation

Review submitted: September 15, 2013   Date of arrival: August 3, 2013

We rented the Villa Royer for 2 weeks in August while our son was attending nearby Birch Creek Jazz Camp in Egg Harbor. It was the most relaxing 2 weeks of our summer. We really did not want to leave. We were very fortunate to have 2 weeks of nearly perfect weather during the day. Hardly a cloud in the sky. We golfed nearly every day at a different course. Took long walks thru the woods and enjoyed all the wildlife. Spent countless hours on the deck by the water reading (managed to finish 3 books!). The silence was deafening. You can't hear or see anyone from either the house or the beach. Total privacy. Perhaps one motorboat off in the distance every hour. Picture perfect. We swam in the lake in the afternoon, right at our own beach (recommend swim shoes for some slippery rocks) and cooked on the Weber every night so we could watch the sunset. And to top off the evening we went to Birch Creek to hear the world-famous Academy band play some of the best jazz you will ever hear. The outdoor space is absolutely perfect here, and the indoor space was more than enough one weekend when 6 friends came to celebrate my husband's birthday. This place is truly a gem - please don't spread the word, as I don't want to compete with everyone for this incredible location.

Charming but very disappointing

Review submitted: July 18, 2013   Date of arrival: July 13, 2013

Our visit include me and my 3 kids aged 9-15. Overall we had a great time with all that Door County has to offer. American Folk Lore Theatre, Washington Island and horseback riding at Kurtz Corral were loads of fun; the state parks, maritime museums, lighthouses and shopping terrific. Great beaches nearby - favs included Egg Harbor and Murphy Beach (about halfway between the cottage and Egg Harbor - fun to jump off the pier). Don't bother with the Dunes, but do visit Cave Point. The cottage location was in the woods. During our stay I stepped out one morning and was face-to-face with a doe. We also saw wild turkeys, fawns, pheasants, rabbits and racoons. Charming cottage in the woods. However, it is important to know that the beach on site is NOT swimmable (huge disappointment as 5-10 minute drive to nearest beach vs. on site as advertized) and the cottage has NO air conditioning. The weather during our week rental was in the upper 80's and 90's. While we were generally out and about during the days and the temps fell off after sunset (so ok to sleep with a fan), being in the great room/kitchen to have lunch or dinner was BRUTAL. The windows have no shades to block the sun and the configuration of rooms/windows doesn't permit a cross breeze. We cut our stay short by 2.5 days as it was too unbearable to stay without A/C or the ability to be in the cottage and have relief from the heat.

Owners response: It was unfortunate that this reviewer was there during the record breaking heatwave. Like many family cottages in Door County, we do not have air conditioning, but we do have fans and windows in every room as well as a spacious three sided screen porch facing the water. Like most beaches on the bayside, we have a cobblestone beach where our family and previous renters have enjoyed the water for years.

Roomy rental

Review submitted: August 23, 2011   Date of arrival: August 13, 2011

The rental home was the perfect size for our family. Plenty of space for everyone! We loved the deck down by the water! This is where we enjoyed morning coffee, juice and muffins. Each morning several pelicans landed in the water for their breakfast as well. My husband spotted a red fox while starting a fire in the pit on the day of our arrival.

The rental home is in a great location! We were minutes from Egg Harbor and not far from Fish Creek. But, don't try to find it with your GPS. We fortunately spotted a local and asked for directions.

Our family enjoyed local beaches, biking, restaurants, and a free concert. It was a wonderful vacation!
