vacation rental description

Casita del Sol and Casita de la Luna are the epitome of the charming, authentic casitas that everyone looks for when visiting Santa Fe.  They are located at 102 Pena Place, within a .7 mile walk of the center of old Santa Fe's historic and picturesque plaza. Each casita can accommodate 2-4 people (depending on whether two people can share the full sleeper sofa). Families can rent the entire compound for a larger group.

The property is located in the historic Guadalupe district. It is a short walk to the Santuario de Guadalupe, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Palace of the Governors, etc. Restaurants within easy walking distance include the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the well known Coyote Cafe, the renowned Pink Adobe, as well as many others.  There are many shops and galleries filled with lots of interesting and attractive merchandise.  In the other direction, it is about a three block walk to the Guadalupe Street area and the new Railyard.

In the summer, enjoy our walled garden (shared by both casitas) as well as a private bistro table and chairs in the rear of the casita (Casita del Sol only). In the winter, cozy up by your own kiva fireplace. The property is very secluded and quiet.

Both casitas feature authentic hand-painted Mexican tile and coved ceilings with original vigas, furnished with hand-carved Southwestern style furniture. The bedrooms features fine linens for a wonderful night's sleep. The sunny atmosphere is the result of skylights throughout. Tastefully decorated with attractive artwork and hand-woven rugs. We have installed new flat screen televisions and satellite service.

Casita del Sol is approximately 650 square feet with a queen bed in the bedroom and a full sleeper sofa in the living room. There is a shower only in the bathroom. In addition, Casita del Sol has a private bistro table and chairs in the rear of the casita.

Casita de la Luna is approximately 830 square feet and features a king bed in the bedroom and a full sleeper sofa in the living room. There is a large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom as well as a separate stall shower.

Off-street parking is available as well as laundry facilities. Upon your arrival, you will find all the ingredients for a continental breakfast!

The casita is maintained with care and pride. My husband and I have owned this property for more than seven years. In that time we have established a number of return guests who come year after year, saying that this is the best accommodation they have ever stayed in while in Santa Fe.

A/C:  Please note that the property does not have air conditioning and it is not necessary. This is the original adobe construction which has been used in New Mexico for centuries. The adobe walls keep the casitas cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The only kind of air conditioning that I could put in these historic buildings would be window units and I refuse to do that as they can be quite noisy and unsightly. We do have fans available for the summer months if people want to use them. In addition, in Santa Fe, the nights are about 30 degrees cooler than the days, so we do not have warm summer nights. We have guests who return every summer and know that the casitas are very comfortable. I remember a couple from Southern California who stayed with us a few years ago. They were concerned that there was no air conditioning, but they decided to stay anyway. They later told me that they were totally comfortable and were very pleased to have stayed in our property.

**Availability calendar represents both casitas. If the calendar shows a vacancy, it may be that either or both casitas is available. Please contact us for availability and rates.

COMMENTS FROM PREVIOUS GUESTS:  Here are some of the many comments we have from people who have stayed in the casitas.

    • The casita was terrific: quiet, comfortable, more spacious and homey than a hotel room and in a terrific location. The seeduction bread, jar of jam, fruit, milk, juice, tea bags and cereal provided breakfast for three days, so we never left the casita before 11 a.m. We walked to and from shows at the Lensic and the Santa Fe Playhouse; the Capitol, the plaza and Canyon Road; dessert at Cowgirls and La Choza; and lunch or dinner at Cafe Pasqual and the Shed. We recommend it as a great place for peace and quiet when you want it while close enough for any activity.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Kelly, It is really gratifying to know that you were able to relax and enjoy for a week. Hope you can bring those feelings back when you need them in your everyday world. Roxanne

    • To say our experience of “Casita De La Luna” was a little slice of heaven would be a tremendous understatement. I know why the swallows return yearly to San Juan Capistrano, it is the same reason why I return to Santa Fe year after year. It’s because of the haven we have found nestled in the heart of Santa Fe. After a long day of air travel, I get so excited knowing soon I will being seeing the “St. Francis” exit and know I am about to arrive at my home away from home. No matter what time of day you arrive at your casita when you open the door it welcomes you. In our casita our fireplace is set and ready to go. It has all the comforts of home and then some. My husband does not like to travel because he can never get comfortable in the beds provided at many places. Here he knows he is going to get that great night’s sleep. The bed is not too firm and not too soft. Within moments he is happily snoring into his king sized feather pillow. Roxanne Connan goes out of her way to make sure that while you are here, you feel relaxed, cozy and that this is truly your home away from home. We have come at many different times of the year. Fiesta in September is one of our favorites. No matter what time of year you visit there is always something going on or something to do. I loved the basket of information that is organized for each visitor. Everything you may want to see or visit is right there at your fingertip. We love to look at the 100 plus year old homes on the way to the Plaza. Half a block away Borders is in the San Busco shopping center, or in the casita bedroom there are books from many well known authors to enjoy in the garden. We really didn’t need our car to see a lot of Santa Fe. Time seems to stand still here and one tends to appreciate the value of a stroll. I could go on and on about Pena Place forever. Instead I will just get my reservation in for next year. I don’t want to miss out on yet another vacation made perfect by starting with a casita at Pena Place! Thank you Roxanne Connan for the time and effort you put in to making our stay unforgettable year after year!!

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Terri Lynne and Dal: Many thanks for your kind comments. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. It would be our pleasure to have you return at any time in the future. Roxanne

    • What a wonderful place to stay while getting to know Santa Fe! The casita is comfortable, quiet, nicely furnished and decorated, with a well-equipped kitchen and very spacious bathroom. Roxanne's little touches make you feel most welcome. The location is convenient for walking to the plaza, farmer's market, and many galleries and shops. You could easily stay here and never need your car. We too hope someday to be able to return to Casa de la Luna.

      Homeowner Response:
Many thanks for your kind comments. It would be our pleasure to have you as return guests at any time. Have a nice summer. Roxanne

    • The place was all we could ask for plus some. The little things that were there; breakfast for your first day, organic good products, firewood, information on what to do, friendly neighbors, clean sheets and bathtubs, etc. The plaza was a perfect walk away-just enough to get warm. Everything was beyond expectation. I would recommend this place for people of all tastes- you will be happy.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Mr. Fletcher, It was very kind of you to take the time to enter your comments. I know that future guests will really appreciate it. I hope your year goes well. Roxanne

    • What a delightful casita! We walked in the door and there was the wood and starter all ready to light in the kiva fireplace, just one of the many thoughtful touches provided by the owners. And there were directions for building a lasting fire. There were fresh food gifts, maps, directions and comments on restaurants, shopping, sightseeing. But the most pleasant unexpected surprise of all was hopping out of bed that first morning onto a WARM floor--I padded around in bare feet, luxuriating on the radiantly-heated floor. We walked to the Plaza, Tomasita's and other restaurants, and in general had an absolutely wonderful time. We'll be back.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Lane, Many thanks for taking the time to add your comments. You know from doing your own search for a vacation rental in Santa Fe that the comments really help reassure those who are looking. Kind regards, Roxanne

Secluded, Charming Casita JennyinSanFrancisco San Francisco, CA. Date Submitted: July 16, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2006 I've stayed at both casitas on the property on Pena Place for several years. I stopped looking for any other place to stay after finding Pena Place. The property is at the end of a quiet street in the lovely Guadalupe District. The casita is absolutely charming, and Roxanne, property owner, does a superb job of making it feel like home away from home. The vigas, floors, adobe walls and kiva are beautiful. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need, if you want to cook in. When you arrive, you'll find a bag of goodies to get you started on your vacation (milk, juice, fresh fruit, bread and always a sweet treat!). The quiet courtyard is beautiful and secluded, with only the sounds of a water fountain. The landscaping is beautiful and the property is immaculate and exceptionally clean. Internet access, CD player, DVD/Video and washer/dryer, make it very easy to never leave the property. The neighborhood is great and you're just a pleasant 10 minute walk to downtown SF and less than that to great shops and restaurants in the Guadalupe District. Roxanne is responsive and will follow up immediately if you run into any problems. Each year that I've returned, she's added some new touch to the property to make it even more special. It is a very special, wonderful retreat!! Not to be missed.

owners think of EVERYTHING Marina from LA, CA Los Angeles, CA. Date Submitted: December 12, 2007 Date of Stay: December 2007 First of all - the place is so charming, even more so that the pictures can capture...The owner's have a wonderful sense of style and aestetic, the description is very accurate, but the reality is even more impressive. Walking distance to the Plaza and restaurants and galleries... My friends and I were particularly impressed with the owner's attention to detail - they thought of everything!! First off it is very clean and you will find all the comforts of home (and probably even more!)... From the kitchen supplies (including some breakfast food to get us started!)... to the linens, to the CDs and books (just in case!)... I can't say enough about it... We love it!!! I would absolutely recommend this rental to anyone looking to experience authentic Santa Fe charm. Beautiful Casita in Santa Fe Neals Fernandina Beach, Florida. Date Submitted: July 10, 2007 Date of Stay: September 2006 We have stayed at the Casa de Luna on five separate occasions in the last six years for a period of one to one and a half months. Each and every time we have walked in the door, it has felt like arriving back home. The central location, privacy, beautiful lodging, convenience of laundry and most especially the easy walk to the Plaza and Guadalupe District make this an ideal location. We love it!!!
