Authentic Santa Fe Charm near the Plaza-102 Pena Place in Santa Fe

quick facts

vacation rental description

Casita del Sol and Casita de la Luna are the epitome of the charming, authentic casitas that everyone looks for when visiting Santa Fe.  They are located at 102 Pena Place, within a .7 mile walk of the center of old Santa Fe's historic and picturesque plaza. Each casita can accommodate 2-4 people (depending on whether two people can share the full sleeper sofa). Families can rent the entire compound for a larger group.

The property is located in the historic Guadalupe district. It is a short walk to the Santuario de Guadalupe, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Palace of the Governors, etc. Restaurants within easy walking distance include the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the well known Coyote Cafe, the renowned Pink Adobe, as well as many others.  There are many shops and galleries filled with lots of interesting and attractive merchandise.  In the other direction, it is about a three block walk to the Guadalupe Street area and the new Railyard.

In the summer, enjoy our walled garden (shared by both casitas) as well as a private bistro table and chairs in the rear of the casita (Casita del Sol only). In the winter, cozy up by your own kiva fireplace. The property is very secluded and quiet.

Both casitas feature authentic hand-painted Mexican tile and coved ceilings with original vigas, furnished with hand-carved Southwestern style furniture. The bedrooms features fine linens for a wonderful night's sleep. The sunny atmosphere is the result of skylights throughout. Tastefully decorated with attractive artwork and hand-woven rugs. We have flat screen HDTVs, satellite service and HBO.

Casita del Sol is approximately 650 square feet with a queen bed in the bedroom and a full sleeper sofa in the living room. There is a shower only in the bathroom. In addition, Casita del Sol has a private bistro table and chairs in the rear of the casita.

Casita de la Luna is approximately 830 square feet and features a king bed in the bedroom and a full sleeper sofa in the living room. There is a large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom as well as a separate stall shower.

Off-street parking is available as well as laundry facilities. Upon your arrival, you will find all the ingredients for a continental breakfast!

The casita is maintained with care and pride. My husband and I have owned this property for more than seven years. In that time we have established a number of return guests who come year after year, saying that this is the best accommodation they have ever stayed in while in Santa Fe.

A/C:  Please note that the property does not have air conditioning and it is not necessary. This is the original adobe construction which has been used in New Mexico for centuries. The adobe walls keep the casitas cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The only kind of air conditioning that I could put in these historic buildings would be window units and I refuse to do that as they can be quite noisy and unsightly. We do have fans available for the summer months if people want to use them. In addition, in Santa Fe, the nights are about 30 degrees cooler than the days, so we do not have warm summer nights. We have guests who return every summer and know that the casitas are very comfortable. I remember a couple from Southern California who stayed with us a few years ago. They were concerned that there was no air conditioning, but they decided to stay anyway. They later told me that they were totally comfortable and were very pleased to have stayed in our property.

Pristine, luxurious, quiet - Perfect!

Pristine, luxurious, quiet - perfect!!
Laura New Hampshire
Review Submitted: June 18, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
This Casita exceeded my expectations in every way! It is stocked with all the comforts of home: spices, plastic bags, CDs, ample storage, easy use of washer/dryer, just to name a few. The location was perfect. Literally 5 minute walk to the old town plaza, and in a quiet, clean and safe neighborhood. The patio was divine and I spend many hours on the comfortable chairs listening to the birds and basking in the great Santa Fe weather. I can't say enough about this rental, the pictures really don't do it justice. I consider myself somewhat of an accommodations snob, this was immaculate and very comfortable, especially the bed! The bathroom is gorgeous, with a cool sky light. Roxanne and Andy were so accommodating and helpful. I left my ipad charger behind when I checked out and Andy had it FedEx'ed to me the next day. There is so much to do in Santa Fe and the food is some of the best in the country. I will definitely be back and will stay here again!

Beaautiful and Comfortable - Location

Review submitted: December 1, 2011   Date of arrival: March 1, 2011

Beautiful and comfortable location

We spent the month of March, 2011, in Casita del Sol and loved it. It is a great location within easy walking distance to the historic center as well as numerous other locations. The Casita was well decorated in a southwestern style, very comfrotable and clean. The courtyard was a beautiful space for relaxing especially in the later afternoon and early evening. The casita was well apponted with everything we needed. The kitchen contained all cooking utensils and appliances we needed to cook meals. Roxanne had stocked the casita with breakfast foods which lasted us many days. There were numerous books to read and lots of information on local and New Mexico attractions. Our expectations were definitely exceeded and we will plan to stay here when we next visit SantaFe.

Wonderful Week in Santa Fe

Review submitted: December 1, 2011   Date of arrival: August 1, 2011

Wonderful week in Santa Fe
Laura Mclean, VA
Review Submitted: September 9, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
My husband and I just returned from our stay in Casita des Sol. Everything was perfect. Beautifully decorated and FULLY equiped. Quiet, peaceful, cozy and bright. Roxanne provides breakfast treats, coffee, juice milk and cereal. So thoughtful. The location is ideal. A pleasant 10 minute walk to the plaza plus there are many wonderful restaurants just a block away. We enjoyed Azur, Ristra, Aqua Santa just across the river and Andiamo in the Railyard district, all very close by. The farmer's market is the most amazing I have ever seen. I can still smell the chili peppers roasting! The patio provides and ideal outside area to read, snooze or enjoy a glass of wine. I highly recommend this casita to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Santa Fe.
