vacation rental description

Located 40 miles south of Tallahassee off Hwy 98 on Mashes Sands Rd., our Cottage is one of the original Cottages on this road, built in the 1940's, recently remodeled and painted. The Cottage is on ground level (no stairs or steps to climb) approximately 1430 sq. ft., concrete block and vinyl flooring.

The Cottage is on an 80' X 270' lot which goes directly down to the shore of the
Ochlocknee River (about 70ft. from back screened porch). Aged, gnarled oaks and terpentined pines shade the yard.

Our Cottage has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, large living room, kitchen/dining area, and a 11X22 screened porch which seats 6-8 people comfortably.

The porch is great for morning coffee, reading, watching river traffic, bird watching and afternoon naps on the twin bed. The river runs east and west here and the sunrises and sunsets are breath taking.

activities and attractions in Panacea Gulf Coast North

This is the perfect mini vacation get-away for couples or families, avid fishermen and hunters, girls get-away, guys weekend off, or FSU Football games in Tallahassee!

New, right in front of "The Stewart Cottage"  paved walking/cycling path, begins at the end of Mashes Sands Rd. and is now completed up to Hwy 98, will eventually go all the way to Sopchoppy.

There are several excellent restaurants which serve locally fresh seafood or you can purchase and cook your own local, fresh seafood from the seafood houses in the Panacea area.

You can relax quietly in the Cottage or if you prefer more activity you are only 1.3 miles from Angelo's Restaurant, 1 mile from the public boat landing and public pier, and 1.25 miles from Mashes Sands Beach.

*If you have your own boat, you can put in at the public landing, go off shore salt
water fishing or up the Ochlocknee for fresh water fishing and then pull your boat up on the sandy river shore back of the Cottage (you will need to keep check on the tides). Don't have your own boat? There are charters available for off shore fishing or fresh water fishing up the Ochlocknee River.

*There is also seasonal cast netting for shrimp and mullet; scalloping, and floundering.

*For the hunter, you are only 30 to 45 minutes away from Tate's Hell or Samatra to the south and you are practically in the middle of the Apalachicola National Forest and the St. Marks Wild Life Refuge.

For the golfer there is Wildwood Golf course about 20 minutes north on Hwy 98 or St. James Bay Golf Course about 30 minutes south on Hwy 98.

Other sites and activities include Wakulla Springs (about 30 minutes away), Gulf Coast Specimen Lab in Panacea (kids love this) or take scenic Hwy 98 over Walker Bridge over the Ochlocknee River (which the Cottage is on) to Alligator Point, and on to St. Teresea, St. James Bay, Lanark Village, Carrabelle, East Point, St. George Island and Apalachicola. Along this scenic route are several places to dine and lots to see. Apalachicola is great for antiquing/junking/eating and sight seeing.

*Of course all Florida boating, fishing, netting and hunting regulations must be followed.

Deb and I enjoyed are stay at the Stewart cottage, it is just as it is described. It is conveniently located and well kept. The owner was very pleasant. Susan if you read this we left a partial bag of sunflower seeds in the container by the door to the sun porch.

Thank you,

Terry and Deb

Owners response: Terry and Deb, Thank you for the wonderful review. We try very hard to keep things as you would at home so our guest will be comfortable and will know the cottage is clean. We did find the sunflower seed, and thanks again. Hope you guys will consider coming back sometime in the future.

Breath of fresh air

P & MA (Greenville, NC)
Review submitted: July 31, 2011   Date of arrival: July 31, 2011

What a beautiful place to relax! This is a very cozy cottage with spectacular views. It's easy to see why people love to return! Everything you could ever need is right here. We both cook, so the well-equipped kitchen was a big plua.

There's boat access at the end of the street so it's easy to get out in the bay. Beautiful clear spring-fed rivers are so close, there's something for everyone.

The adorable needlepoints done by Pat, a sometimes tenant, really add to the charm. Panacea is a quiet town with a lot going for it besides the view. Nice people, slow way of life, and $4.00 oysters in season. Mmmm-mmmm-mmmm! Thanks Susan and Pete for sharing.
