Disappointed

amyjayne (leon, wv, USA)
Review submitted: August 7, 2011   Date of arrival: July 31, 2011

I'm sorry to say that the pool was the only part of the property that lived up to expectation, although a useable skimmer would have been nice. The house was very dirty and FULL of flies! I was prepared for some dirt considering this is a pet friendly rental. I was not prepared for actually ruining our socks by walking on the floors. The propane grill was in disrepair. There was also a house directly behind us that wasn't in any of the pictures. It posed a bit of a privacy issue considering the sparse window coverings.
The gameroom was nice. Our 3 boys got a lot of use out of the pool table and ping pong. The hot tub was also very nice.
I won't be recommending this rental to any friends due to the price. At half the cost it might be worth it.

Recommended for: families with teenagers, pet-friendly

Owners response: We are so glad you enjoyed the pool and the game room. The property is not advertised as secluded as it does set in a neighborhood. Yes, I agree that flies have been a major problem this year. We do hire a professional pest control service that comes monthly to spray inside and outside the cabin. We always ask our guest to please leave the windows and doors closed as much as possible because pest will quickly invade a property. If you would have called us directly with any of these concerns we would have gladly sent the housekeeper or the pest control company to assess these issues. It is impossible to correct any issues if we are not notified. We have not had any complaints regarding these issues at this property. We thank you for sharing your opinion and have shared your thoughts with all the departments.

Best Regards,

Honeymoon get away

There were things I liked about this property and things I didn't. The privacy and views were great. The downstairs decorations were adequate. The outdoor hot tub had a strong mold smell when we opened the cover and you could see mold around the edges so we didn't get in. The upstairs master bath had no blinds or curtains on the windows and there was a house behind the windows that could see right in at night time. The house is a good ways away but I know there would be no problem seeing in the windows at night when the lights are on. We had to constanly duck or have a towel wrapped around us while entering the tub. The master bedroom was a huge disappointment to say the least! It was like a college dorm. No dressers for your clothes, no nightsands or bedside tabels except a cheap little table that I would not put anything on for fear it would tip over. This is the best part. The bed was not on a frame of any type! The box spring was right on the floor with the mattress on top! This was ridiculous to me with the size of this home and the money you pay to rent. I cannot believe there were not any previous reviews about the master bath and bedroom. The curtains in the master bedroom were also very thin and would not provide any blocking of the sun in the morning as well as people being able to see through them from outside at night time. The tv in the master bedroom was a good size but it was just sitting out in the room on a roll around table. I could not believe how the best bedroom in the house was so cheaply thrown together. I would vacation in the area again but I will def not rent this home again.

Owners response: Thank you for your review of A Wolf Cave Log Home, however, that property has been sold and is no longer part of our rental inventory. This ad has been replaced by Poppy's Hideaway, a beautiful riverfront cabin with all the comforts of home. In fact, we have over 80 cabins to choose from in the Shenandoah Valley.
