vacation rental description

Nellie's Nest is named after the previous owner & long time Bokeelia creative personality, Miss Nellie. Now owned by her nephew, this home is cozy, well loved and beautifully remodeled. Reminders of Miss Nellie exist in her original art work, lush gardens, and historic memorabilia. Located on the northern tip of Pine Island, it is a mere 5 minutes to open water. The home is on a quiet, dead end street with water on both sides of the road, and is 2 streets away from the public boat ramp. Pine Island has a 15 mile long public bike path which runs the full length of the island but the real focus of this quiet fishing village is gorgeous Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico, and fantastic fishing for all ages. Cayo Costa State Park can be reached by private boat or ferry. Boca Grande Pass is the location of annual tarpon tournaments every June and is a brief 20 minute run by boat. You have to drive through Matlacha to get to Bokeelia so you already noticed all the art galleries and restaurants (including Great Licks with home made ice cream!). Sit by your dock and watch the mullet jump in the canal while the egrets, herons, bald eagles and osprey go fishing!

A great place for a staycation

Review submitted: August 20, 2014   Date of arrival: August 11, 2014

We really enjoyed or stay at Nellie's Nest. The house was in a great location close to the marina and restaurants. The amenities were even better than what we expected. The owners were very quick to respond when we had a concern or a question. We took the ferry to Cabbage Key to get a cheese burger in paradise and then to the beach at Cayo Costa ... it was a wonderful day trip. I will definitely recommend Nellie's Nest to my friends and family. We hope to return time with our boat!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing

Owners response: Please do come back with your boat! We have space at the seawall to tie up a 26 foot & there is no extra charge for dockage. We're glad you got a chance to get over to Cabbage Key & to Cayo Costa, an easy boat ride whether by ferry or personal boat. Thanks again for staying at Nellie's Nest.

The home is beautiful and super clean and was affordable. Owners didn't miss any details. From maps with fishing locations and tide charts to restaurant menus. Nothing was skipped on the details. Fishing was excellent and neighbors were very nice and helpful. My family and I will definitely check availability to come back for another fishing vacation. We had a great time. Everything was definitely top notch.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with teenagers

Owners response: Hi Jen, we're glad you had a great visit & fishing trip. Summer is a perfect time for Florida families to visit w our lower summer rates. Thank you for your excellent review of Nellie's Nest & we look forward to your return visit!

Wonderful accomodations!!

Review submitted: June 19, 2014   Date of arrival: June 13, 2014

We had a wonderful stay at this property. Our boat was right out the back door. The house is lovely and the owners have put a lot of thought into the comfort of their guests!! The location is ideal and the house has everything you need to feel at home.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: Thanks Alison for your review and comments - and more importantly, for your return trip to Nellie's Nest! We truly appreciate that our guests choose to come back year after year. I know you brought your boat but did you get the kayaks out on the water too? Robert replaced the seat in the red one in anticipation of your arrival :) You mentioned doing some shopping in Matlacha too - always a good spot for unique gifts on the island. Meanwhile...I'm back to Fruitscapes to buy more mangoes! Hope to see you again!
