Perfect vacation

bobinchicago (chicago)
Review submitted: November 19, 2011   Date of arrival: September 24, 2011

We arrived late afternoon on Sept. 24th for a 7 day stay. Having grown up in San Jose (now living in Chicago) and spent so many years vacationing (camping) at Pinecrest I was really looking forward to seeing it again, after more than 15 years since my last visit. Happily, nothing really changes at Pinecrest. The cabin upon arrival we found to be very charming and clean. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. All appliances work. We happened to be there on the last night of the season for the Saturday movie under the stars, which concluded its 76th season. As a toddler and young man I spent many nights at these movies in the 60's and 70's. Our night at the movie was perfect! During the week we enjoyed the closeness of the cabin to the lake, with only a few minutes walk to the lakes edge and close to the boat rentals, which at the end of the season are half off. We hiked to Cleo's baths and enjoyed a cold and quick dip in the pools. The lake however was still warm enough for swimming. We enjoyed a day of sailing on the lake as well as renting a pontoon boat and swimming and picknicking. I was very happy that the cabin was within comfortable walking distance to all key areas, i.e. the amphitheater, the marina, beach, snack shack, stores and Steam Donky restaraunt. Dealing with the cabin owner was also straight forward and pleasant. The living room was comfortable and the TV with DVD was great for watching movies in the evening (we brought our own selection of Sherlock Holmes mysteries, a different mystery each night). There is a downstairs bedroom off the living room which is very convenient and nice. All the beds are comfortable and we really enjoyed the large deck, which has ample seating for everyone. The view from the deck is wonderful! The kitchen is well stocked and we enjoyed the eat in kitchen. The bathroom is also in very good shape with a great shower and water pressure. The cabin overall is as promised, charming, comfortable and close to everything. Upon leaving we left the cabin as clean as possible, and the owner was able to refund our full deposit within a couple of weeks, which was very good. The cabin would be perfect for family's or a couple looking for a quiet get away. All around good experience. Thanks again for a great week!! Bob in Chicago!

Perfect time to be at Pinecrest

Review submitted: November 19, 2011   Date of arrival: September 24, 2011

We arrived late on Saturday Sept 24th and left on Saturday Oct 1st. Coming from Chicago we flew into SFO, rented a car and stayed one night with my folks in SJ. On the way to Pinecrest we stopped in James Town and Sonora for some really good antique shopping, which made my partner quite happy! Our first night was the last night of the movies under the stars, the end of their 76th season of showing movies in the outdoor amphitheater, and what a perfect night it was. Being the end of the season the crowds are much fewer and you really feel like you have the place to yourself. Also, boat rentals are half price, so it is a bargain time to go. The cabin was ready for us as promised and we found it to be very charming and comfortable. It would be perfect for a small family with kids. It has a geat deck area with ample seating, I also liked the eat in kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with sufficient and working appliances. Each night we watched a movie using the built in DVD player on the TV. We brought our own selection of movies (each night a different Sherlock Holms mystery). While the water at the lake was getting low, it was still warm enough to swim. We also rented two sunfishes and had the lake to ourselves for sailing. We also hiked to Cleo's baths one day and enjoyed a very quick dip in the pools, its!! cold!!. The cabin is in perfect walking distance to everything, i.e. the waters edge is just a few minutes walk, the store and steam donkey restaraunt also just a few minutes walk and the amphitheater for the movies probably a 5 or 10 minute walk or less. However, at night have a good flashlight, it is dark. I also utilized the selection of books the owner has downstairs and was able to finish an entire book, which is a nice vacation luxury. The rooms were clean, while one the beds upstairs takes some getting used too, as it is against a wall, it was still comfortable. The downstairs bedroom is perfect and the bathroom and shower are very good condition, with very good water pressure. Overall, the cabin was as promised, clean, comfortable and well stocked. The owner was great to work with and my deposit was quickly refunded. Thanks again, we really enjoyed our week at Pinecrest and very much enjoyed the cabin.

Wonderful Pinecrest cabin!!

Mom to many (Danville, Ca)
Review submitted: August 22, 2011   Date of arrival: August 13, 2011

This cabin is a gem in the mountains. The location is ideal. Its about a 3 minute walk through the woods to the beach at Pinecrest lake. The beds are comfortable, the living room is cozy and the kitchen has everything you would need to enjoy your stay. The cabin feels welcoming, clean and well maintained. Sit out on the deck and watch the Bald Eagles soar by. We will rent this special place again!
