The lake is six miles long and has over 25 miles of shoreline. It is surrounded by an evergreen forest, and mountains tower over the lake to the north and west. The southern portion of Tunk Lake is Maine Public Reserve Land and is carefully watched over by local agencies. There are three primitive campsites at this end of the lake, and camping there is like being in a natural wonderland. Swimming and sunning are perfect pastimes on the lovely beaches, and canoeing and kayaking are a great way to explore the lake as a whole.
