Destin Gentle Breeze in Destin

We have enjoyed out stay at Gentle Breeze on five separate occasions over four years. We are returning again in May 2011. The cottage is well-maintained with excellent housekeeping and is beautifully and tastefully decorated. The amenities are truly as described and everything is on-hand to create a home-away-from home. The cottage feels exactly like a home when you walk in the front door - not at all like a rental. The owners apparently strive for this effect and were very successful creating it.

Wi-Fi was added last year which helped cut back on our regular trips to the Panera at Destin Commons. There is always a generous supply of towels and linen and toiletries. The A/C is very quiet as well as efficient as are the washer & dryer. Cable offers a good selection of local, regional and national feeds.

The beach is a ten minute walk at best or driving is easy too with ample space always available in the main Maravilla parking area. The beach attendants know their job and are both industrious and courteous. Umbrellas and chairs are clean and well-maintained. There is also a convenient shower feature as you exit the beach. The stretch of beach access belonging to Maravilla is unquestionably one of the very best in the Destin area.

We have not used either pool or the tennis courts. There is a gym and its schedule coincides with leasing office hours if my memory is correct. After-hour access may be possible - check.

Restaurants of every type and price range from white table cloth to fast food are nearby in either direction. Maravilla is a gated community with key-pad access. You can enter/leave on either 98/30 (Emerald Coast Parkway) or Old Highway 98 along the Gulf coast both exits being very convenient. There are food and drug stores nearby including Publix and a Wal-Mart Super Center. The Silver Sands Mall with numerous outlet stores is not to be missed. Retail stores of every description lines both sides of 98.

Walking along Old Highway 98 is a nice diversion and seems to be safe at all hours. It is rare to find any car or motorcycle speeding on this road. Pedestrians in crosswalks are respected too. The sunsets from the beach should not be missed. Early risers are regularly treated to dolphins and other sea life moving along the shoreline.

If you are planning a trip to Destin you should definitely consider Gentle Breeze. The accompanying photos for the listing are current and reflect exactly what you will see and enjoy.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway
