Sunrise Cottage 

True to its name, Sunrise Cottage is a wonderful place to catch the first rays of each beautiful day break across the water of Racoon Cove. The private shorefront tidal location offers a range of forest wildlife as well as an abundance of sea life as the tide retreats and returns twice daily.

Our newly constructed bright and spacious private home is hidden off the beaten path, deep in the woods, yet just minutes form Ellsworth and famous Bar Harbor.

Sunrise Cottage gives you more than enough to keep the whole family pleased. 

Just steps from the shore, and minutes to the Lamoine Town Beach and Lamoine State Park pier and boat launch, you will enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities that coastal Maine is known for. You can pass the time taking a dip or casting a line in Blunt's pond, walking or biking along the numerous private roads and trails, kayaking or canoeing the cove, or just relax on the wrap-around porch with a good book. At night sit by the camp fire cooking s'mores, catching fireflies and gazing at the beautiful stars only seen this far away from the city lights.

Acadia National Park is just a few minutes away. Enjoy hiking the mountain trails, the miles of carriage roads, rock climbing, boating, sailing, sightseeing, whale watching, fishing, horseback riding, or working on your tan at Sand Beach. There is a great bus service during tourist season all over the island.

The shops and restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor have something for everyone. Catch a glimse of the cruise ships that now stop for travelers to get an authentic Clam and Lobster bake in the heart of Down East Maine.

We stayed at Sunrise Cottage for a family week. With 4 kids in their 40's, one about 30 and two grandkids, 15 and 13. What we especially liked about the location was its' seclusion and its' location on the water. Even though the house is about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor we found all we needed to do within 45 minutes driving distance. The house was so nice and the kitchen so well stocked that we would leave for much of the day and return to make dinner, sit by a fire outside and otherwise enjoy our home away from home. We used the kayak and canoe every day, went to Mt. Desert Island and hiked each day, swam and explored the surrounding area, all within easy distance of the cottage. There is no real swimming off the property but for most I would think that the water is too cold to swim anyhow. We did go to a nearby beach and swam there. There is a nearby golf course which I found challenging and fun at a reasonable price. As a family we felt that despite being somewhat far from Bar Harbor that this was exactly what made the location so good. In fact, even though Bar Harbor is a draw we only went into town once. There was too much to do otherwise. The house itself was great, with a wraparound porch, picnic table, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, plenty of linens and towels, just about everything we needed. The lower level bunk room was the only area that's not finished but for our family with two kids it worked out well. I really can't come up with any drawbacks to this rental. We loved everything about the place and it was exactly as advertised. I would strongly recommend this rental to any family with up to 10 members.

Secluded, comfortable waterfront getaway

The property was everything we had hoped for as our 8 family members came together from far away for a week's vacation. Clean, fully equipped and stocked, with everything in working order, we were delighted! The gas fireplace in the living room and pellet stove downstairs were effective in keeping us warm, as temps ranged from 44-58F during our sunless and rainy mid-May stay. Nevertheless, the property setting allowed us to have the campfires, canoeing, kayaking, easy clamming at low tide, wildlife sightings, and more. Conveniently located near Acadia National Park (~35 min away to entrance), the property is far from the bustle of summer crowds in Bar Harbor and other spots on MT Desert Island. Renters should be aware that the setting is somewhat remote, eventually accessed by several dirt roads without lighting, and some distance from any gas stations or convenience stores. Knowing that, we simply planned ahead, and gassed up and shopped on the way back to property at the end of the day. The owners supplied the home with essential consumables so we would not have to make a special trip for say, trash bags or matches or paper towels. The new washer/dryer combo was appreciated due to the wet conditions we experienced, as were the many table games, brochures and local guides to the park and attractions. And...the owners even supplied a set of lobster implements for eating our fresh lobsters! The owner Camille Upton was gracious and helpful before and throughout our stay. We look forward to returning.

Family Vacation at Sunrise Cottage

If you love first class rental combined with nature, you'll love this place. The house is decorated beautifully and is clean. It even had toys for the little ones. Located on a rustic shoreline and close to Lamoine Beach. We found all kinds of fascinating sea creatures during low tide. Very close to Ellsworth (a great town) and about a 1/2 hour to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Very private, could be a little isolated to some. We'd love to go back every year.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, sight seeing, romantic getaway
