traveler reviews for this holualoa house rental

I haven't even left yet, and I have to leave a review!

Review submitted: July 17, 2014   Date of arrival: July 13, 2014

Where do I start? I guess from the beginning...

When my sister-in-law first found this property on VRBO, she sent it to me and I was sold. This was our dream vacation and 10 year wedding anniversary. I have always wanted to stay at an ocean-front or beach-front property.

When I contacted Mark, he was very prompt and friendly. He asked me if I had Facebook, which I thought was strange. He insisted on checking me out, which was a first (I have rented many properties around the world using VRBO and Air BnB). When he said, "I just want to know who it is that is staying on my property", it actually made sense. It also eased my mind to know that this person really cared that much, because if I owned this place, I would probably do the same thing!

I was in contact with Mark the whole time from booking to arrival to even today (2 days before checking out). The minute we arrived on the Big Island, I texted him to let him know we had arrived. He asked Chris (the property manager) to prepare the place for our arrival. As soon as the house was clean, Chris texted to let me know it was ready a bit earlier than the check in time of 4 pm. When we got the the house Chris greeted us and opened the doors. My jaw immediately dropped. In the words of my sister "OMFG! OMFG!" This house is UNREAL. The vacation home rental of my dreams. Just look at the pics! They don't lie. There were body boards, a bike, snorkelling gear, beach mats, beach umbrellas, fresh cutlery, a fridge that made ice and filtered water, comfortable beds, a sick portable BOSE bluetooth speakers, binoculars for dolphin spotting (we saw a large pod on our first morning here), clean grounds, clean pool, working hot tub, outdoor showers, recycle bins (you would be surprised how rare this was), WORKING WIFI (again, rare for some reason), a giant smart TV with Netflix (rare), cool little creatures like snails, geckos, frogs and crabs that visit the backyard at night. The best part was (and most important to me) the place was immaculately clean. Chris and his wife really care about what they do and you can tell. There is nothing worst than walking into a dirty property no matter what the view looks like. A dirty property ruins everything. This house is well kept, even though there is a lot of rust due to sea spray (which no one can do anything about).

Mark and Chris have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with! You won't be disappointed if you rent this place!

A a Place Called Heaven

Review submitted: July 12, 2014   Date of arrival: January 19, 2014

If you would like to go to heaven without dying first, this is your place. It's a large, two story home, with almost every room looking away the ocean, seemingly a few feet away. All that's between you and the ocean, besides the outside patio/lanai/2nd dining area is a large, pool with some of the most gorgeous tile work I've ever seen. Adjacent to the pool and connected by water falling is a large hot tub. The walls of the pool and hot tub have the ocean right below them. This might make it a bit precarious for a toddler even though that area is surrounded by a safety railing. We made use of the mountain bikes and snorkeling gear kept at the house and some of our best underwater sightings right in front of the house. We saw dolphins daily and three whales the first day from one of the many decks. There were six of us, all family, and we had plenty of space inside. Huge laundry room, more pretty tile work in the showers, and a nice kitchen with a new side by side refrigerator. There is a lovely, local couple who manage the place. They were attentive, courteous and quick. They greeted us upon our arrival at the house to give us keys and a quick tour of the house. We were there for a week that went by much too quickly but will be back, staying here again.

Amazing

Review submitted: July 9, 2014   Date of arrival: June 21, 2014

What more could you want than a big, comfortable, superbly equipped ocean front house with a fantastic swimming pool? The house had everything you could ask for and plenty besides. It’s big, it’s spacious it’s airy and it’s spotlessly clean. There are so many windows and the house is so bright…you couldn’t let any more light into the house! Every gadget you could ever need is there and if you need any advice or help it’s only a phonecall/email away with an immediate response. The ocean front location is wonderful and we saw pods of dolphins close to the shore on most days. The incoming tide brought shoals of fish and spectacular waves almost to our door and we spent hours watching the crabs, fish, urchins, anemones, sea cucumbers and eels in the rock pools.

The 3 main bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable and the fans in each provided a vital breeze during the night. The lounge area is big and comfortable and the big TV provides indoors entertainment should you need it. The bonus use of a bike was very welcome for those quick errands to the store, or just to nip into Kona.

If you don’t want to make use of the comprehensive kitchen facilities or take advantage of eating outside and taking in the wonderful views of the ocean, a variety of restaurants is only 10 minutes’ walk away in Kona. In the evening we would all sit on the upstairs balcony and watch the fantastic sunsets, they seemed to be slightly different every evening.

We travelled about on a few days and took advantage of some of the nice beaches around but all agreed that the location of the house: its views, its proximity to Kona, the quality of the pool and the standard of the property itself could not have been bettered. We looked at the other properties around and decided that the people staying in them would be wishing they were staying in ours!
