The guesthouse is across the courtyard from my home. The brick cottage (700 sq.ft.)is nestled under 300 year old live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. You enter through a private courtyard (432sq.ft.) surronded by outdoor seating, gardens, plants and fountains. Here in the private community of Pleasure Bluff, you can take a step back in time and visit the quaint fishing village of Shellman Bluff and the unspoiled barrier islands. The Pleasure Bluff community was started in the 1920's by families who loved to come to the salt water rivers on the coast of Georgia to catch fish and shrimp and to gather oysters. Today the quaint and eclectic cottages, cabins, and mobile homes are rarely sold and usually pass down to members of the family who continue to use them. There are only four owners that live here full time. The other owners use their places infrequently. The dirt and gravel roads are private and peace and serenity abound. This is a perfect place for a break from noise, traffic, and crowds. Julienton River is a salt water river within 10 minutes of the Intercoastal Waterway at Sapelo Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. This area is a very special paradise not yet discovered by the masses. Peace and serenity abound. The Serenity Place Dock is on Julienton River 100 feet from the guest house. The upper covered deck area has hammocks, lounge chairs, ceiling fans, rocking chairs, dining table and chairs, and sinks. The 55 foot floating dock has 17 feet of water at low tide. You can dock a boat or yacht up to 70 feet long. Water and power hook ups are available. THE SERENITY GUEST HOUSE AT PLEASURE BLUFF Spend peaceful time in the guest house and courtyard or walk 100 feet to the riverfront gardens. You can sit on the dock with views to the Southeast of Sapelo Sound, Julienton, Boro, and Sapelo Rivers. Settle into the wicker chairs on the dock and enjoy your evening cocktail time or your fresh brewed morning coffee. At sunrise and sunset, the water changes shades as it is infused with all the colors of the rainbow. The dock and the gardens offer you a panoramic view of Julienton River that changes with the time and the tides. You watch as the sun strikes gold on the marsh grass that stretches across the river to Harris Neck Island and reaches as far North and South as you can see. Day and night the sky is mirrored in the river and art is created in front of your eyes. The view constantly changes as the tides come and go and leave the clean white sand beach looking as if it has never been stepped on by man. This Georgia barrier island area is described repeatedly by authors like Eugenia Price. From the Serenity Place Dock, across Julienton River and Sapelo Sound you can see the outlines of Sapelo, Blackbeard, St. Catherine’s, and Creighton Islands. In the distance you can see the yachts and sailing ships as they move up and down the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The shrimp boats with nets raised high as they return to supply the local restaurants with the best seafood in the world from local waters. Still today, these protected islands have been preserved and kept much the same as they were many years ago when Blackbeard sailed his ship here and used the islands for a base for his pirated treasure trove. Later there were days of elegant homes and plantations here. As you enjoy your evening cocktails on the dock while relaxing in the Pawley’s Island Hammocks, you can be soothed by the Bose sound system as it surrounds you with the music genre or artist of your choice. The sky is full of sea and land birds as they finish feeding and return to their nests and roosts. Wood stork, egrets, herons, sea hawks, pelican, sea gulls and many land birds. You are lucky if you get to watch as bald eagles feed in the river and rare and endangered woodpeckers retrieve their dinner from the bark of the 100 feet tall virgin pine trees. For the bird lovers, varying with the season there are always an abundant supply and variety of land and sea birds. As for the dolphin lovers, you can watch as they come and go with the tides and feed along the marsh banks and over the sand bar across the river. Dolphin watch goes on day and night. Star gazing is great due to the limited competing light. Here on Julienton and Sapelo Rivers we are steeped in the history of days gone by. Today the peace and quiet surround you as you listen to the sounds of nature mixed with wind chimes as the breeze blows. This is a Serenity Coastal Vacation Rentals property and gets the Serenity Seal of Approval.
