Our little slice of heaven, Cherry Log Mountain Retreat, is on top of a mountain outside the quaint little village of Cherry Log, GA. Situated midway between the other lovely mountain towns of Blue Ridge and Ellijay, Cherry Log is just an hour and 15 minutes north of Atlanta, yet a world away.
Every season here holds something special for the visitor: rejuvenating spring with its dogwood, mountain laurel, and rhododendron; the greenery of summer, which can be either lazy or active--your choice; magnificent autumn with its stupendous array of colors; winter, with the coziness of a wood fire and, yes, we do get snow!
Cherry Log Mountain Retreat has the distinction of having completely paved access--all the way to the top of the mountain and up the driveway to the door of the cabin!
Another unique feature is that we have DSL, and we have a wireless router for your laptop!
Of course, we have a wood-burning fireplace, but we provide all your wood free!
Of course, we have a front porch, but we have both rockers and swing!
Of course, we have a gas grill, but we leave a spare tank of gas!
Of course, we have a 6-person hot tub on the bottom deck, but we installed romantic rope lighting leading down to and around it, and it's drained and sanitized between all bookings!
Of course, we have a fully stocked kitchen, but we also have a washer, a dryer, and a dehumidifier!
See lots of other features and extra touches in the CABIN RENTAL AMENITIES section.

cabin rental amenities
If you skipped any of the paragraphs above, they describe some things that are NOT listed here, so please go back and read them.
Email us for access to our 60+-photo slideshow with explanatory captions
Hour and 15 minutes north of Atlanta in quaint Cherry Log, halfway between Ellijay and Blue Ridge
Real log cabin (not log siding) at the top of the mountain
Year-round, breathtaking, long-range views of multiple layers of mountains--some cabins that say they have a view actually have it for only part of the year, when the leaves are off the trees
Completely paved access--all the way up the mountain and entire driveway to door of cabin--no four wheel drive needed
Security of a development, yet cabins are far enough away from each other for complete privacy and seclusion (if you get the info from us on how to access the slideshow, you can see this better in the photos)
DSL, wireless router for your laptop
Stone wood-burning fireplace--we provide all wood
Front porch with rockers and swing
Gas grill with spare tank of gas
Hot tub on bottom deck with romantic rope lighting leading down to it and around it; drained, sanitized, re-filled, and adjusted between all bookings
Loft master suite includes full private bath with queen bed, cable TV/DVD (PLEASE NOTE: This master bedroom is a LOFT. It is an entire area--bedroom and private bathroom--unto itself on the second floor--everything else in the cabin is on the ground floor, BUT the master suite does have one side that has a railing overlooking the staircase, NOT a wall. If you get the info from us on how to access the slideshow, you can see this better in the photos.)
Second private full bath and two private bedrooms on ground floor; queen bed in one; twin day bed with twin pull-out/pop-up trundle in other; can be separated for two twins or pushed together for a king
Pack 'n' Play and toddler bed rail
Living room has cable TV/VCR/DVD; videos, games, cards, puzzles, books, magazines
Master has TV/DVD
Second bedroom has TV/DVD
Central heat and air; ceiling fans throughout; additional ceiling heaters in both baths
Fully stocked bath and bed linens; extra linens, pillows, blankets, afghans
Fully stocked kitchen with all major appliances, many small appliances, and dishes, cookware, etc.
Washer and dryer
No smoking
Dog-friendly (PLEASE tell us how many you'll bring when sending us an inquiry); sorry, absolutely no cats (allergy!)
Smoke detectors, CO 2 monitor, outside motion-sensor flood lights; flashlights; emergency battery-operated lantern; first aid kit
Other special touches: clock-radios in each bedroom; spare batteries and bulbs for any device or fixture in cabin; office supplies; walking sticks
Horseshoe pit and equipment
Wild blueberries, blackberries (our grandkids make cobblers), hickory nuts, and black walnuts on property
World-class Benton MacKaye Hiking Trail (which intersects and runs concurrently with the Appalachian Trail) borders our property; it and other marked trails crisscross through the development
Variety of wildlife--we've seen lots of deer, wild turkeys, skunks, fox, and even a bear lumbering down the Benton MacKaye Trail!
8 stocked lakes, 3 of which are a "healthy" walk away (the trek back up to the cabin is rather steep!)--no fishing license needed as it's private property--we've caught huge catfish and big bluegills (see pics of them in our slideshow)
Also nearby are: picturesque covered bridges; a quaint, rustic wedding chapel on one of the lakes (with photos of couples married there); covered picnic table and big wooden swing on another lake; on yet another lake is a big pavillion that can be booked by groups--maps to all are in cabin
activities and attractions in Blue Ridge Georgia
This list will not do justice to all the activities and attractions in this area. Upon booking, we send guests four links for things of interest in the area. Maps, brochures, booklets, guides, and menus are in abundance in the cabin as well. The local chambers of commerce have a wealth of the same, as well as knowledgeable and friendly personnel who love to share information about their special corner of paradise. Of course, you can also research the towns and general area on the Internet.
Hiking galore, including the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye
Fishing, boating, Jet Skiing, tubing, whitewater rafting--Lake Blue Ridge, Toccoa River, Ocoee River
Horseback riding, golf, mountain biking, gem and gold panning
Antiquing--Blue Ridge has been called the antique capital of GA, and Ellijay, with its charming roundabout (instead of the typical courthouse square), has its share, too
Swan Drive-In Theater, one of the few remaining today, operating since 1955
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, on which you can take a narrated ride from Blue Ridge to the twin cities of McKaysville GA and Copperhill TN and stand with one foot in GA and one in TN--marked with a big blue line painted through the IGA Grocery parking lot
Apple businesses where you can view the process from orchard to grocery bag, tour the facilities, shop for apple-themed goods and goodies, and try one of the area's delights: the fried pie! Ellijay is known as the apple capital of GA
Wonderful local restaurants--just a few: the Toccoa Riverside, where on weekend nights a duet of two elderly, overall-clad bluegrass pickers entertain; the Pink Pig in Cherry Log, President Jimmy Carter's favorite BBQ joint; Colonel Poole's BBQ in Ellijay, where the hillside is decorated with a giant outline of a pig compiled of hundreds of plywood pigs naming past patrons (some celebrities)
Festivals throughout the year: for example, Apple Festival, Sorghum Festival, Prater's Mill Festival, GA Mountain Fair (demonstrations of old-timey mountain practices), Rhododendron Festival, Bluegrass Festival, Dahlonega's Gold Rush Days
Numerous state parks, national parks, and national forests, each with its own amenities, activities, and gorgeous scenery
Marked scenic drives/highways, almost all with scenic pull-overs and overlooks, especially important during our gorgeous autumn "leaf-gawking" season
Countless waterfalls, one of which (Amicalola) is the tallest cascading falls east of the Mississippi; in the cabin are a pamphlets with descriptions and directions to 11 falls in the area--all of which we've hiked to--only a couple are strenous treks
Just a few miles from the cabin is the longest suspension bridge east of the Mississippi, a very short and easy hike brings you to where it crosses the Toccoa River
A little further away is Tallulah Falls and Gorge, the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi(notice a pattern here?)--we've hiked to the bottom of it, and it is strenuous, but magnificent
Many other sights within a short drive, such as Brasstown Bald, the highest point in GA, Dahlonega's Gold Museum, the Alpine town of Helen
Also available in-cabin from outside sources are such services as massage and gourmet chef
