traveler reviews for this tybee island condo rental

This Condo offers the best of Tybee!!

Review submitted: November 2, 2013   Date of arrival: June 1, 2013

After much deliberation, my wife chose this condo for our first trip to Tybee. We couldn't have been happier! In fact, we proceeded to reserve it for next year as soon as we got home. There are several reasons to choose this condo.

Location was the selling point for us, and it lived up to it. Out of all the condos on the island, this one is the closest and has the most useable beach in front. Speaking of the beach, it was all that we could have asked for. Being almost dead center of the island, it was not as crowded as the southern parts. There were still plenty of people to watch, but you're not tripping over them. We traveled with our two daughters, ages 10 and 15, and they made several trips back and forth from the condo to the beach. The convenience of having the ocean just steps away was wonderful.

As for the inside of the condo, it was very comfortable and clean. There was nothing pretentious and stuffy about this place, which made it feel more like home. There was more than enough room for each member of my family to have their own personal space when we were not having family time. The condo was well equipped with most anything a person would need. The washer and dryer were especially handy. The kitchen was well equipped, clean, and spacious. We found all of the living area furniture to be comfortable, clean, and relaxing. It was a favorite spot, during a rare rain shower.

The deck was a favorite spot, as well. You can watch the ships roll in while you relax or grill. Morning coffee while watching the sunrise over the horizon starts every day off right. It was pleasant eating a few evening meals with the sights and sounds of the ocean in front of you.

We were honestly overjoyed with this place. Having been to several places along the gulf, we wanted to try the east coast. We'll not be going back to the gulf. We were astounded at how nice and helpful the natives were. As southerners ourselves, we really appreciated the hospitality.

If you're looking for a great place to spend some relaxing family time, this is the place to go. With Savannah only minutes away, there is not a lack of things to get into. We found no need to venture very far from the condo, though. In a nutshell, it was perfect for us.

Fantastic location, lots of space, but filthy

Review submitted: November 1, 2013   Date of arrival: August 26, 2013

Location is right on the beach, and you can watch dolphins from the kitchen and living room. It really is in a great location and the beach was fantastic and never very crowded. BUT, the condo was filthy. The basic surfaces were clean (counters, sinks, toilets), but if you looked anywhere else, it was nasty. When it was brought to the manager's attention, a cleaning person was sent in again but the filth still wasn't cleaned after they were gone. There were splatters of stuff on walls, hair along baseboards and all over bathroom, crusted mildew and soap scum that was orange and brown along the entire outside of the door of the dish washer that you could scoop off with your hand, clumps of dust hang from the ceiling and fans, thick layer of grease on the microwave vent, wrappers/dust/candy/rubberbands/etc under tables and beds, sticky nasty crusty goo all over the remotes and buttons on the tv, light switches were brown with dirt/grime. It was endless. The manager used the excuse that it was the end of the season and that is why it was disgusting. I would think for what they charge for a one week stay, they could find the time to make sure it was actually clean. I would not stay here again. I would find another place in a similar location with the same great views and beach access for the same or less cost and stay somewhere nicer.

Owners response: I always appreciate feedback from my guests. This is my family’s property and we strive to do our best for each and every guest. We are not a management company, but a small family business and accordingly have a personal stake in our condos. Taking care of our guests and condos is how we support our family and so it is our top priority. As soon as this guest reported the condition of the condo, I immediately contacted and setup a time for housekeeping to go back over and correct the issues raised by the guest. Before this particular stay, I had to use a back-up housekeeper due to a last emergency of my regular cleaning staff. I would never make excuses for uncleanliness but did agree that the condo could use a deep clean. Since it was at the end of a very busy season in which there is not a single open night from May to September, the condo was due for a deep clean. However, the issues raised by this particular guest should be taken care of weekly in the few hours we had between guests. My regular staff would’ve certainly seen that this was handle properly. After she went back and re-cleaned the condo, I was under the impression that the guest was happy (until this review appeared almost 3 months later) or I would’ve continued to do everything I could to see to it that it was handled to their satisfaction. We have always and will continue to seek ways to improve our guests’ experiences while staying with us on Tybee.

What a great place!!!

Review submitted: June 4, 2012   Date of arrival: May 20, 2012

The place was very clean, very nice and right on the beach. What I didn't realize until I walked the beach was that the further north or south you go the longer the walk is from the condos/hotels to the beach. The distance from the beach to the condo/hotels gets longer and longer because the dunes keep getting bigger both north and south of this unit. This unit has to be one of the closest to the beach on Tybee Island. This was a great perk for us since we had 2 toddlers with us. Quick to the beach and quick off. Also the dunes both N&S are so big you can't see over them. The units on the lower levels can't see the ocean. We could see much more than most even though our unit was on the lowest level. VERY nice!!

Another learning point was the restaurants on Tybee are kinda pricey. We ended up eating 2 meals in every day to save some $$. The kitchen in this condo was well equiped w/everything we need to cook with. The IGA (only foodstore on Tybee) is not any more expensive than at home so that helped. Don't think you'll save by ordering delivery either. We ordered shrimp alfredo, 1 chili cheese dog, 1 devil dog (dog wrapped in bacon w/hot sauce) and an order of chili cheese fries and that was $52. Eyowww!!

The pools were nice and clean with lots of deck chairs. This is right next to Marilyn Monroe's restaurant which is where we ate our first night. The fried Grouper is excellent and huge. Got to be the best sandwich on the island.

You get 2 parking spots/unit. Since we only had one car most of the time we parked in the middle of the 2 spots for our unit - which was very nice loading and unloading luggage, babies, etc..

There are sliding glass doors on the master bedroom and the living room so oodles of ocean view. We slept with the sliding glass doors open in the bedroom and listened to the waves all night. That was very nice.

All in all I have no complaints at all about this unit. I hope we can return to Tybee soon. If so I wouldn't even consider another place. This was perfect for us!
