The Captains House(3 bedrooms, 1 shower room) is the original house on the 67 acre
island settled by Captain Percy Cook in 1923. Cooks Island is a rustic idyll that has been
sensitively developed - no concrete monstrosities here! Great care has been made to
preserve the charm of the Captains House which contains much of the furniture and
artefacts from the Captain's travels.
The Captains Cottage(3 bedrooms, 1 shower room) is located on the other side of the
dock on the property, 2 1/2 acres.
The houses are eco friendly - Solar power and collected rainwater provide for the basic
needs. Cooks Island is only accessible by boat- a fifteen minute ride. The caretaker can
pick you up on Big Pine Key, or rent a boat. Kayaking, Fishing and Snorkeling are at your
doorstep with reef heads just offshore. The beautiful beach of Bahia Honda is a short boat
ride away. Ideal for nature lovers- The Key Deer is just one of the animals that inhabit the
island. Cooks Island is close enough to the mainland to be able to spend the day in Key
West, but chances are once on the island, you will not want to leave.
