Best Cottage we have rented

Review submitted: February 21, 2013   Date of arrival: July 14, 2012

Ken Thanks for the stay at the cottage. It was the best visit we have had on the lake. It was nice to bring our fishing boat. The house was fantastic and hope to be back one of these years. John

Great Week Away

Review submitted: October 5, 2012   Date of arrival: August 25, 2012

My family and I rented the cottage during the last week in Aug and really enjoyed our stay. My favorite part of the cottage was the short trail that leads down to the pond, which I thought was a lake, it's so big. It was very peaceful and beautiful. The deck was large enough to entertain a large of group of people, only set back were the acorns that were falling from the trees above.
The cottage itself was nice enough, we were a group of 6 and had more then enough room. Not to mention our daughter is in a wheelchair and we were still able to get her around. There are steps to get into the cottage, we just brought her lightweight chair and carried it up the 3-4 steps. A previous reviewer mentioned cob webs... well this is a cottage in the woods it's to be expected I would think. The cleaning crew could have done a better job with the bathroom however.
I would love to go back if we weren't moving from the Northeast, I loved the house, the area, and the surrounding towns.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with young children, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: I am very happy you had a great time at the cottage. It is a great pond with 3 miles of water to kayak and easy to paddle into Pemaquid Lake which is 6 miles long. It is a picturesque lakefront and we do have a lot of repeat vistors every year.

Title & Pictures Slightly Misleading

Review submitted: September 1, 2012   Date of arrival: August 25, 2012

The pictures & title of the Rentals ad for "Biscay Lakefront Cottage" is somewhat misleading. If you look at the pictures you would assume that the cottage is ON the lake. Well technically it is, however, you can only see slight glimmers of lake water through the heavily wooded trees. There is a steep, rocky trail (about 150 ft.) from the cottage lawn to the lake/dock. Careful maneuvering is needed on the dock (ie, it takes on water if you travel too close to the left or right edges.)

The cottage was comfortable but had a strong musty smell which came from the damp basement. The cellar floor had only partial concrete, the other half was a huge rock/ledge and appeared damp. This would be problematic for anyone who suffers with upper respitory problems.

The beds were clean and mattresses very comfortable. The cottage could have been cleaned better (ie, windows, cobwebs, floors & counters).

The deck & grill were a pleasure to use on the warm sunny days. The awning did come in handy.

My suggestion would be to BRING YOUR OWN LINENS (which luckily I did). The owner requests the renters wash, dry & fold all linens before leaving @ 10:00 a.m. checkout time (you'd need to start at 6:00 a.m. to pull that off).

We made the best of our stay and had a nice week, but as far as going back, probably not.
