Experience a part of history in this gracious Federal style home built by Samuel Forbes in
1799 and beautifully restored in 2005. During the 19th century, the house was a part of
the famous Underground Railroad with a tunnel leading into the basement intact. Home
boasts large spacious rooms with 11 foot ceilings downstairs and 5 fireplaces. Large
chef's kitchen with professional 6 burner wolf stove leads to great room with double
height cathedral ceiling and original exposed beams. Dining room or keeping room has
massive fireplace and original bread oven and table seats 12-14 comfortably. Off the
dining room is a beautiful guest room and full bath alongside a beautiful Living Room
with Piano. Upstairs is a Master Suite in the former vaulted ceiling ballroom with fireplace.
A dressing room and bathroom complete the suite. Also upstairs are 2 guest bedrooms
with a full size bed in one and two twin beds in the other. Between them is a sitting room
with fireplace and flat screen TV on the mantel.

on lakes.

Litchfield County offers year-round recreational activities for everyone including skiing at
Mohawk Mountain and Woodbury Ski area in the winter and boating, swimming at Lake
Waramaug in the summer as well as hiking in the fall at many nearby nature preserves. The
area is full of antique shops, great restaurants and shopping.
This is an ideal base for parents with children at The Gunnery, Rumsey Hall, Canterbury,
Kent, South Kent and others.
