Located halfway between Merida and Cancun and one hour from Tulum, Valladolid is a bustling Mayan city with a special colonial flavor. This is where you will see the majority of the townspeople still using the typical dress of the Maya, the huipil. The buildings around the main plaza are painted in pastel colors. You will surely get a sense of the laid-back pace of life here.
The Plaza is a unique place with many Mayan ladies sitting on the side opposite the Cathedral hawking crafts that include hand-embroidered dresses and blouses, handkerchiefs, hammocks and more.
Casa Dutzi, a newly restored colonial house from the 17th century, is located three blocks from the city center, at the Barrio San Juan.
The house is divided in a huge living room and a master suite with an extra king size bed. Both rooms have cathedral high ceiling which gives you a unique taste of colonial living and brings you back in time. The master suite opens up to a small patio, which is next to the bathroom and an outside kitchen and dinning room next to the garden.
The house is furnished with either antiques or specially designed by the owner and handcrafted by local craftsmen.

activities and attractions in Valladolid Yucatan
There are interesting places near Valladolid that should be visited; the world-famous ruins of Chizen Itza and the impressive ruins of Ek Balam, an archaeological site 20 minutes north of Valladolid where the pyramids here are bigger than the ones at Chichen Itza. Further north are Rio Lagartos and San Felipe on the Gulf of Mexico where you can see the pink flamingos. And if you hit East you can relax on the white and sandy beaches of Tulum. Not to forget the most famous cenotes are just outside Valladolid. Deep, refreshing, crystal clear waters await you and are great for swimming.
