vacation rental description
The Lazy L&B Ranch invites you to share a week of western fun while enjoying the spectacular beauty and drama of Wyoming's vast country.
This Wyoming 'dude' ranch, dating back to the 1920s, is known for the quality, range and scope of its horse back riding. Guests can enjoy many other activities also including fishing, hiking, swimming in the river or the solar heated ranch pool, hot tub, riflery, and games, including volley ball, horseshoes, and pool.
Situated at 7200 feet in the Wind River's East Fork valley, this guest ranch continues to keep the authentic western flavor of the old sheep and cattle ranch, originally settled by Scottish homesteaders in the 1890's, in what has become known as the Scotch Valley.
This is the true west where names ring with the legends of the Wild West. This is the land of Jim Bridger and the Mountain men, the Arapahoe and Shoshone Indians, Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, Chief Washakie, Buffalo Bill, the Pony Express, and the Oregon Trail.
cabin rental amenities
The lodge has a cozy fireplace, library and game tables where guests can enjoy time to themselves, an early cup of coffee before breakfast, visiting with others, games, and a special evening of cowboy poetry and songs.
Tucked in the cottonwood trees and arranged around a central courtyard and along the river, the log cabins are comfortably furnished with casual western flavor. Ranging in size from the old 1-room schoolhouse for one or two to large family cabins that house up to eight, they all have a small refrigerator, private bath or shower, electric heat, and porches, some with views of the Absaroka and Wind River mountain ranges.
Nothing quite hits the spot like a delicious home cooked ranch supper after a long day's ride. The Lazy L&B is famous for it's ranch fresh meals with home made breads and desserts. Start the day with a hearty buffet breakfast with homemade muffins and cinnamon rolls, eggs and bacon or pancakes. If you prefer, enjoy fresh fruit and cereal. Our lunches are served either at a buffet picnic on the lodge porch or at a scenic location on an all-day ride. Three nights each week guests enjoy supper in our beautiful dining room, the other evenings outdoor BBQ's are the rule. For those with special diets, please notify us when making your reservation, and we will gladly accommodate your needs.
BYOB is the norm at the ranch although beer and wine is served only at happy-hour several nights a week.
activities and attractions in Dubois Wyoming
The Lazy L&B is well known for the its horseback riding program. Our experienced staff of wranglers will carefully select your own horse for the week. With rides ranging from three and a half hours to all day long, beginner and advanced groups are kept small to enhance your enjoyment and allow special instruction. Surrounded by three mountain ranges; the Wind River Range, the Absaroka Wilderness and the Owl Creek mountains on the Indian Reservation, the riding is superb.
What makes the Lazy L&B unique is the opportunity to trot and lope through some of the most diverse terrain imaginable. Red rock and sand-canyon draws lead you up onto the high plateaus of the Reservation. Trot along the cottonwood river bottoms and tall rangeland grasses into colorful badland country. In contrast, experience the mountain meadows, abundant with wild flowers, or alpine country where early and late in the season you may see herds of elk and deer, moose or coyotes. For those who don't like to ride, we have horses that don't like to be ridden. . .
There is a supervised riding program for children 5 years and older that includes riding and safety instruction. Two nights a week the children eat early with the wranglers, one night being a hayride BBQ. Their dinner is followed by activities such as hiking, roping and corral games. There's a petting zoo for the younger ones.
Anglers can enjoy fishing in the stocked ponds, the East Fork of the Wind River on the ranch, or in the neighboring Wiggins, Bear Creek and Wind Rivers. Other activities include hiking, swimming in the river or the solar heated ranch pool, riflery, leather shop and games, including volley ball, horseshoes, and pool.
In the town of Dubois there is a weekly evening of square dancing, a chance to visit the Big Horn Sheep Center and museum and time to browse the attractive western shops along the authentic boardwalks.
Following is the outline for each days' meal and riding schedule. But remember, this is your vacation so you decide.
