Walk to all Downtown Festivities!! in New Braunfels

Great little place!

Myself and some friends went down to New Braunfels to get away for a weekend and to catch a show at Whitewater Amphitheater. This place was awesome. Great location, minimally decorated but comfy and just the perfect place for a small group of people. I would rent this place again any time.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sight seeing

Three night girls' retreat

We went down to New Braunfels for a girls' getaway week, eager to rest, relax and float the river. The house itself is charming, recently updated and worked well for us. It was clean, and well maintained. We were in easy walking distance to New Braunfels, and enjoyed walking for breakfast or dinner into town. We also loved driving to Gruene, which was about a 10 minute easy drive.
We were expecting a quiet cottage on the water. We found a cute cottage nestled in a slightly run down neighborhood, with construction and train tracks. Unfortunatley for us, the Comal river was closed during our stay due to flooding, but we did drive to the Guadalupe and enjoyed our floating there. What we were most dissappointed in was finding, directly outside of the front door, 2 sets of railroad tracks -- and yes, they are active all day and all night. We spent the nights being awakened by loud train whistles every 2-3 hours, which did not lend itself for our "restful getaway." Also not mentioned, there is a large construction site directly to the right of the house, and the large construction vehicles begin running at 630 am. Finally, there was a port-a-potty directly outside the back door, on the exterior of the fence, perhaps for the workers on the construction site?
We called the owner the next morning, after being awakened all night and left a message. Several hours later, we did hear back, but no other properties were available for us to move until the next day. We decided by then that, with only one night left, it would take up too much of our vacation to pack, move, and then pack up the next morning.
Overall, we liked the house itself, but would not stay again due to the location. We were overall dissappointed with our stay due to the location and noise level, and did not quite get the rest we were hoping for.
