vacation rental description
The Hangout rests on Wildcat Ridge 4,600 feet above sea level. The home is on the South side (Southern view over the valley) of Whiteside Mountain - the oldest mountain in the world. Equal distance between the communities of Cashiers and Highlands (12 minute ride to each). The Hangout provides privacy, a spacious 6,500 sq. ft. floorplan and the best and most dramatic view to be found in the area. The large glass windows in the great room overlook a precipitous 2,000 ft. drop to the valley below. On either side of the great room are large outdoor decks, one facing East (morning sun) with the ambience of its own waterfall, and the other deck (up to 10 people) facing the West to the mountains of Tennessee and the dramatic sunsets over them.
This 5 bedroom, 5 bath home has recently had a $700,000 refit to include modern appliances, TVs and beautiful, comfortable furnishings. A private office with sofa and chairs looks over the southern valley. Two living rooms and three fireplaces give the home flexibility and warmth. There is a separate game room with ping pong, pool (Billiards) and an attached walk-in wine tasting room.
Outside, on the East side of the house is a gas log campfire ring with stone seating for 10 persons - a great place for story-telling after the sun goes down. Attached by a wooden bridge to the east side of the house is an architect designed tree house for the younger group. It accesses the bedroom wing on the 2nd floor of the main house. There is also a hammock above the water feature on the east for reading or an afternoon nap.
On the West side of the house is a Croquet Course which can easily be set up on the lawn. It can also be used for Badmitton which we also have available.
Th Wildcat Cliffs Golf and Country Club is only 1/3 mile down the hill. Guests can use this famous golf facility for user-pay green fees at times when other club events don't interfere. Also available to guests of "The Hangout" is our award winning health club and spa which includes a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi for 12, a complete nautilus exercise club plus 3 all weather tennis courts. The numerous ponds and lakes are all stocked with rainbow trout for the fishermen in your party.
Our house manager of over 17 years, Dianne Hall, will be happy to meet your party upon arrival and help to get you acquainted with the home and property.
