vacation rental description
Time to get away from thumb cramps from texting and the constant cellphone chatter? Time to read the latest mystery and watch hummingbirds cruise the wildflowers and go canoeing in the lake later and eat lobster next to the shore in the evening? And not pay waterfront rates to do it?
This is a modern shingled cottage with old fashioned Andrew Wyeth charm--a quiet retreat located in a field of wildflowers at the end of a private road. Five minutes to the ocean, five minutes to the lake, five minutes to the mountains, eight minutes to Camden.
The cottage is not appropriate for younger children because the staircase is steep. Queen bed in upstairs bedroom. Twin bed in upstairs lounge. One spacious bathroom with old fashioned tub and shower.
To reach the cottage, you drive through the woods and the house sits at the top of a field where fireflies light up at night. Beyond the stone wall that borders the field sits several hundred acres of woods. During the summer, none of the neighbor's houses can be seen. But if you want to see them, they are the friendliest neighbors imaginable.
house rental amenities
Two basic bicycles. Canoe, paddles, lifejackets, basic car-top carrier. Washer and dryer. Full Kitchen. Herb garden growing outside door. Linens, towels, soap, paper products included. Charcoal grill and picnic table. Books, board games. Satellite TV. DVD/VCR. Tons of old movies. For other gear: Kayak rentals, bicycle rentals, guided trips, two-hour sails are all close by. Solid recommendations for where to go and what to see, on and off the beaten track, from a local who knows the area inside-out.
activities and attractions in Camden Maine
Hiking out the back door, fresh vegetables from a nearby farm, and wine tasting at a vineyard 5 minutes up the road. Minutes to sailing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and more hiking to dramatic mountain-top views. Three golf courses within 20 minutes, two of them with ocean views. Dine at Francine's Bistro in the village of Camden after an afternoon sail across Penobscot Bay or at nearby Primo's in Rockland after touring local museums and galleries, lighthouses and cobblestone beaches. Both restaurants are nationally recognized. There is no shortage of fine dining on the Maine coast. Back at the cottage at night, loons call from a nearby pond, owls hoot from several hundred acres of woods out the back door. Wild turkeys and deer regard the field as their own and moose and bald eagles make periodic visits. This is the real Maine vacation--all the amenities and stunning beauty the Penobscot Bay area is known for are just ten minutes away, but serenity and privacy and simple beauty that the cottage offers will make your week-long vacation truly relaxing.
By the end of the week, you'll want to stay forever. Read the reviews!
