vacation rental description

Donameer Farm and horse camp is nestled in a quiet valley on top of Mount Washington, in the heart of the Finger Lakes of New York.  Our scenic 90 acres includes fields for pastures, woods with trails, hills to climb with panoramic vistas.

The guest cottage at Donameer Farm is a quaint country cottage set amidst this 90 acre horse farm and campground. The cottage is a one room efficiency with kitchenette and private bath.  It is furnished with a queen size bed crafted from old ancestral barn beams, a dresser, comfortable couch and a 4 chair and dining table set.   All linens are provided.

The view of the meadow from the picture window includes deer, fox, wild turkey and soaring hawks.

Relax on the front porch glider with your morning coffee or a glass of local wine and watch the birds at the feeders, or the hummingbirds defend their nectar. An umbrella table on the stone patio allows for outdoor dining along with lounge chairs for the sun or star-gazing.  Fire pit with wood is great for an evening under the stars.

The hiking/riding trails on the hill behind the cottage include a fishing pond, woods and open fields. Walking sticks are provided for your hiking pleasure and safety. A walk through the woods and trails before sunset will soothe your soul. Explore our small creek for fossil rocks from the time our region was under water.

Regional tourist info, restaurant menus, maps are also supplied.

activities and attractions in Hammondsport Finger Lakes

There are trails for hiking or riding. The pond has too many fish, no license required. We are located just a short 5 scenic miles to Hammondsport or Bath. Visit the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of Local History or perhaps the Crooked Lake Ice Cream Parlour. Walk with your cone around the village square, or the 2 blocks to the head of Keuka Lake and village park and docks.  Spend an afternoon visiting the local wineries, tasting wines and drinking in the views of Keuka Lake and its lush green vineyard covered hills.

Learn about growing your own garlic!  We have several varieties growing on the farm.  Love garlic?  We will show you how to enjoy your garlic, the many uses and tastes.  August and September have garlic festivals in our region.  Fox Run Vineyards match wines, food and garlic for a weekend festival in August overlooking Seneca Lake.  The Cuba Garlic Festival in September has a full spectrum of growers, products and music in the western hills of New York state.  Garlic, the Stinking Rose, is good for your health!  Garlic is available for sale, fresh and organically grown.

Head to Corning and visit the world famous Corning Glass Museum and Museum of Science, or the western art collection of the Rockwell Museum. Heading to Watkins Glen you will drive the hills and valleys past lakes formed by receding glaciers. Hike the incredible Glen, or visit the Watkins Glen Race Track.

For the avid fishermen, we are conveniently located near great fishing on Lamoka, Waneta and Keuka Lakes.  Fish for small, large mouth bass, lake trout and pike.  Bring your boat!  We have plenty of room for you to park it at no additional charge.

Whatever your interest, there is plenty here to explore and enjoy!

The perfect honeymoon

Review submitted: September 29, 2012   Date of arrival: September 23, 2012

We stayed here for a week on our honeymoon and it was amazing. Cynthia and Neal were amazing hosts, as well as their two adorable dogs Sophie andDottie. We would recommend this location to anyone. We felt right at home and were close to town. The bed was the most comfortable Ive slept in on vacation in a long time. The farm was beautiful and there were many trails and a pond, alot of activities for any outdoorsman. We will come back here without hesitation!

I brought my wife and 5 year old daughter here for 2 nights. The cottage is cozy and clean with everything you will need. The property is beautiful with many things to do. My daughter loved fishing and looking for fossils in the stream. Cynthia is a great host with many stories to share. We will be back!

We loved it! Beautiful area, lots of outdoor space and we didn't want to leave. It's close to Hammondsport (10-15 min.) and not too far from Watkins Glen (40 min.) so is a great place to call home for a week to explore all the wineries and other tourist areas. Our two "fur kids" had a great time as well. We were apprehensive about letting them run loose, but no worries. Once they were acclimated, they ran and explored like they'd been there forever. I think they're sorry we're back "in the city" now too. The cabin is rustic, but clean and comfortable. Cynthia is a terrific host, along with Sophie, of course. We will be back!
