vacation rental description

Unit D-3 at the Kona Reef is an absolutely oceanfront, newly-renovated, fully furnished, non-smoking, one bedroom condo with a complete kitchen. The lanai (patio) is located only 30 feet from the ocean. There is terrific tide pooling and exploring in the lava rocks. This fully furnished condo provides a wonderful place to just sit and relax. From your lanai, watch the surfers during the day and the sunsets at night. You'll also see jet boats, parasailing, and huge cruise ships. During the winter months. you may see whales passing by and it's not unusual to see schools of dolphins. Large turtles are permanent residents in the tide pool area and shoreline.

The Kona Reef is a low-rise oceanfront condo complex located close to the center of Kona. While away from the center of activity, it's an easy 2 block walk fom the condo, along the waterfront to shopping and restaurants. Fresh produce, flowers, and macademia nuts are available at the nearby farmers' market. The Kona Airport is about 7 miles away. Kahalu'u Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling areas in Hawaii, is just a few miles from the condo.

A large oceanfront pool, Jacuzzi, and chaise lounge area makes the Kona Reef a relaxing place to stay. Four gas-fired barbecues provide a great place to cook dinner, which you can eat at the tables and chairs in the barbecue area or take back to your private lanai.

Kona Reef

D (Idaho)
Review submitted: February 10, 2012   Date of arrival: January 31, 2012

Loved the condo, location and area. Just a few notes: the blind on the sliding glass door was broke so we had to physically stand on a chair to raise/lower it and it only lowered half way (part was on order, we were there 10 days and it had not been repaired when we left) The bed was older and saggy, needs to be updated. Otherwise it is a great place and would recommend the facility to others, maybe not that unit unless these problems were corrected.

Recommended for: age 55+, tourists without a car

Owners response: Thanks for the feedback. New mattress on the way! And I just talked to the maintenance man who has gotten the new chain needed to fix the blind; repair parts are not as available on the island as they are on the mainland so it takes a bit longer for things to get fixed. Hopefully the wonderful aspects of our condo will lure you back the next time you come to Kona!

Great location and very relaxing !

This unit is nicely renovated and the oceanfront view is spectacular. The unit could use a new bed as we found it sagged towards the middle and was not very comfortable. Also, a few more beach towels would be nice as there was only 1 adult and 1 child towel available. Otherwise the unit is well supplied, clean and comfortable. The pool and barbecue area are recently updated and well maintained, great for sunset barbecue dinners ! The view from the lanai is awesome, whales, dolphins, sunsets, etc.. The complex is a short walk into town for restaurants and shopping which is very handy. Thanks for the nice stay !

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, sight seeing, tourists without a car

Owners response: Thank you, Ken, for the helpful feedback. We're replacing the mattress right now. We're also talking with our housekeepers about the beach towel situation. We've provided plenty of them but sometimes they get mixed in with the extra bath towels (under the sink in the bathroom) rather than being in the cupboard where they belong. Hopefully the housekeepers will do a better job of putting the beach towels where they go.

Condo in July 2011

Review submitted: August 31, 2011   Date of arrival: July 21, 2011

We had a wonderful stay in the condo. Jan thought of absolutely everything and it was well equipped with nice Hawaiian touches. Jan was the perfect owner - who answered every question and couldn't of been more helpful. She was wonderful. The condo was only metres from the ocean and the lanai was excellent. You could watch the boogie boarders and surfers not to mention the dolphins, traditional boats and parasailers go by was great. The small white sandy beach next door was cute, relatively secluded and with tons of turtles around and beautiful yellow tangs (fish) if you wanted to stay close-by. The only negative thing was that the condo was a bit dusty and I don't think the cleaning team did their job that day, and the bed was a little soft and perhaps needs replacing in the future but these are small things! Despite this, I would definitely recommend this condo to friends and family. It was a very comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend hiring a car/jeep and travel around the island - there are so many wonderful beaches, snorkelling areas, crazy 4WD tracks and the island is fantastic with every changing scenery. You must do the night manta ray dive, swim with turtles, take a heli flight over the active volcano, go up north and discover some beautiful beaches, walk around age old lava, visit the volcanoes national park, mauna kea summit, discover the history of the island and visit the hilo side with its waterfalls and jurassic park type valleys. We had a wonderful 2 week holiday and would definitely recommend the stay at this condo. Thanks for an unforgettable holiday.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sight seeing, romantic getaway
