activities and attractions in Captiva Island Gulf Coast South
Wonderful things to see and do: The small, friendly old Florida style town features all the best of island living. Great food, slow pace and smiling faces, mixed with lots of activities and spectacular sunsets will make you want to come back year after year. Long relaxing walks collecting thousands of colorful shells, on the white sugar sand beaches, makes visiting the island on at least one vacation more than worth the trip. Or a two minute walk to the day cruise tour boat, Captiva Cruises, can be great fun. They offer trips to other nearby islands as well as dolphin watch and shelling cruises. A few yards away from there, guided kayak trips to the local mangrove forests in the bay are offered. Kids and adults will have lots of fun catching starfish and hermit crabs on the 10 minute bayside paddle to see the abundant life living in the mangrove trees.
Short trips around the island: If you want to venture outside the village, a few minutes by car (15 mins.) and you can enjoy the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, shell museums, terrific shopping areas, movie theater, and dozens of other fabulous restaurants! On Sanibel Island, see the light house and walk the beach by the fishing pier.
Golf: Golf & Tennis - The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club or The Beachview Golf and Tennis Club both offer public access to their facilities. Beautiful places to play golf or tennis. The only thing that ruins it for me when I'm there is that I have to play golf or tennis. Both are only 5-6 miles from the house.
