Secluded Island Cottage in Swans Island

The property is in a quiet forest area of Swans Island within walking distance of the ocean. It is in the Down East , Acadia National Park locale in Blue Hill Bay. The cottage  is not on ocean frontage but within a five minute walk from the sea shore line. It borders a private nature preserve with accessible hiking trails. Peaceful quiet with limited traffic on a private road prevails. There many large windows which allow occupants to overlook the deep spruce forest and view birds, turkeys, racoons, deer, mink, eagles, osprey,Seals and whales can be seen on the shore line and rocks.

The island is accessible by the Maine State Ferry service in Bass Harbor which runs six times a day.  The ferry ride offers sightings of porpoises, birds, and sometimes pilot whales. Refer to the Maine State Ferry Service web site for more information.

The greater Swans Island area is basically a lobstering and fishing community. There are fishing docks, deep water anchorages, and great harbor access.  There are no commercial rental establishments, or hotels, etc on the island. 

The entire area has magnificent ocean and mountain views. Vistas of Acadia Mountains, many off shore islands and the Maine coast prevail on all boundries of the island. One need only to hike, bike or drive to a new location every day for another beautiful experience. The cottage is NOT ocean front property and has views of the spruce tree forest.

The cottage is a year around residence, complete with central heat, wood stove, gas grill,  washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, TV,  internet.  A full complement of kitchen utensils are available for cooking. There are 3 bedrooms with two double beds, and two single beds which sleep six people. Bed linens and towels are not provided. Fresh seafood and lobster can be purchased on the harbor docks. There are several small restaurants which feature home cooked meals. 

Swans Island offers peace, quiet and an enhanced opportunity to appreciate nature. There are miles of ocean view shoreline hiking trails, mountain bike trails and scenic vistas. It is a place to explore and find your way with out commercial guides or tours. Many off shore smaller island offer a chance for travel by kayak, canoe, sailing and picnic lunches. "Fine Sand Beach" is excellent for swimming and relaxing and is located a few minutes from the house. One can drive, hike, or bike to the beach. It is never crowded. Day trips to Acadia National Park, or whale watching are possible. THere is a FREE bus service for tours of Acadia Park at the Bass Harbor Ferry terminal.

Usually on a weekly basis , there are island church suppers, breakfasts, or musical events where you can appreciate the unique culture of Swans Island.

The rental rate for July and August is $675 weekly. Occupancy is from Saturdays 2 pm to Saturday 10 am. Two hundred fifty ($250) security fee is collected in advance and returned. Upon signing a week to week lease agreement. Full payment is expected at the time of agreement.
