Franklin Cottage is a spacious, comfortable, and interesting accommodation for two or three. It is located all the way in our driveway, facing away from our other two cottages, Hawthorn and Juniper, offering guests privacy and a view across the lawn and gardens to the woods (and very often deer passing through!).
At the entryway is a handsome stone terrace kept shady and cool by a gracious old maple. To the right of the tiled entryway is the airy high-ceilinged bedroom with twins joined for a king bed, DirecTV, and plenty of good books.
A left from entry takes you into the open-plan living room, with fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, and fireplace. Seating is very comfortable for reading or enjoying the lovely view to the woods. Outside the living room is a 10'x16' deck with retractable awning and Weber grill.
Off of the main room is a bathroom with shower,as well as an office/workroom with washer and dryer. This can be converted to a bedroom for one upon request.
Interesting original artwork and fresh flowers from our gardens abound.

Somesville is centrally located on Mount Desert Island, with access to Acadia all around us. Our historic village, the first settled on Mt. Desert, is right on the ocean, Somes Sound. From our property one can walk down to the ocean, swim in Somes Pond, take photos on the beautiful white arched bridge, go to the Acadia Repertory Theater, Somesville Library, Higgins Antiques, and more. This couldn't be a lovlier place to vacation and explore the island. Lobster festivals, strawberry and blueberry festivals, fine dining, great theaters, music festivals, hiking, biking, sailing, whale-watching............you can have it all with a vacation here!
