vacation rental description

Las Tunas is owned by the pioneers of beach rental homes in Telchac
Puerto and also the owners of the leading tourist guide to the state
of Yucatan "Yucatan Today." Check the website.
The beach houses along the coast don't have numbered addresses or
streets. They have names. You will find the names of the houses at the
entrances. The name of our home is Las Tunas, which means prickly
pears, of which there are several bunches on the property.
Setting:
Las Tunas house sits on a large, spacious (75 feet by 450 feet) beach front
property on the Gulf of Mexico. We have no wall-to-wall neighbors. We are set
off the beach which affords a wonderful view of
the pool, dune and Gulf of Mexico. The decor in the house is
whimsically eclectic and the sofas and chairs are comfortable!! People
who first enter our home, say, “this is paradise!” We also have lots
of reading lamps throughout the house and on the night tables (not that common in Yucatecan beach homes.)
Telchac Puerto is known for being small, slow and VERY safe where you
will find the locals very friendly. Being such a small village, you
will feel at home quickly, get to know the shop keepers and them you.
The beaches are wide, sandy and great for walking. They are not
crowded with fishing boats, other tourists, break water sticks
every twenty feet and wall-to-wall houses like in Chicxulub and
Progreso. Telchac Puerto is for people looking for a place that is
more private and uncrowded. There are neighboring houses that may or
may not be occupied depending on the time of year.
Swimming is good all yearlong. The water is safe, clean Gulf water
with no rocks, currents or ebb tides. It is very swimmer friendly.
We have AC (in one bedroom for an additional cost) and ceiling fans throughout the house.
There is an international airport in Merida, with direct flights
from Houston, Miami and Mexico City. It can be cheaper to fly into
Cancun, rent a car there and drive over - about four hours.
Having a car will make your stay much more enjoyable.

activities and attractions in Telchac Puerto Yucatan

Attractions:
Miles of wide beaches, an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico,
varied seashells, the sounds of the birds, (flamingos, pelicans,
ducks, osprey, eagles, kingfisher, etc.), the peace, tranquility and
quietness that reign, and the fact that the house is near enough to
other attractions (Mayan ruins, colonial cities) but far enough way
to feel remote.
Draw backs:
No razzle dazzle, no discos, no neon signs, no traffic, no wild
night life, no fine dining, no shopping malls or plazas, no hoards
of tourists. Las Tunas is for people who are looking to get away
from it all and have a “Mexican experience.” This is not a tourist
trap destination. If you do want all the razzle-dazzle above, check
out Cancun, Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya.
Your next door neighbors:
There usually aren’t any!! Our neighbors don’t use or rent their
homes, adding to the peace and quiet of the area! Your back door
neighbor, is Lorenzo, the caretaker, who lives in a separate
bungalow.
How you'd spend your free time:
Reading, sun bathing, strolling on the beach, bird watching,
collecting shells, relaxing in the pool, taking siestas in a
hammock, going to the local harbor to buy fresh fish, going to the
village market for produce, trying Yucatecan food that is sold
cheaply, practicing your Spanish with the caretaker, visiting the
nearby Mayan pyramids of X-Cambo (10 mins. from the house) or
Chichen Itza (1 hr. 20 minutes), Dzibichaltun (45 mins), Uxmal (1
hour), the colonial city of Merida (1 hour), playing golf (45
minutes), driving the back sandy roads of the village investigating,
driving to the other nearby fishing villages, RELAXING.
There is an international airport in Merida with direct flights from
Houston, Miami and Mexico City. The Merida airport is one hour from
the house.
The village has a Main Plaza and tiny local market for fruits,
veggies and meat; there are shops for other staples, a bakery,
internet cafes, and several restaurants open for lunch (the main meal
in Mexico.)One of the charms of Las Tunas is that there is a village
just 3.5 kms away for shopping and errands.

Some comments we've received:
Hola Judy,
We will be leaving in about 45 minutes.
Thanks again to you and JM for having the vision to create Las Tunas!
Adios,
Deborah
Dear Judy,
I wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at Las Tunas.
What a magical place. We were very, very happy there. We arrived back
in Houston this morning. One day a family hesitantly came up the
path asking if it was a hotel. They were looking for somewhere to rent
in August. They were very nice people and I offered to show them the
house. They absolutely loved the house.
Thank you very much Judy.
regards,
Julie
Hi there Judy.
The weather is bitter cold here in Alberta and the kids and I were
looking at Las Tunas pix to warm up!! I thought I'd share a few of
our favorites from around the house and the pool. We have such
beautiful memories and are so greatful we got to visit and stay at
your place. Hope all is well, looks like the calendar is filling
up!!
Take care,
Rayna Tupper
