activities and attractions in Madeira Beach Gulf Coast Central
Walk to everything: restaurants, shopping, groceries, sandy beach, library, ballpark, tennis courts, and playground and a walk-in medical clinic. Local restaurants including bistros, Asian, Italian and fast food are within walking distance, while others within 20 minutes’ drive up and down the shore offer every kind of quality dining experience. Take the convenient Gulf Blvd. trolley to locations from St. Pete's Beach to Clearwater.
The quaint and famous fishing village of John’s Pass is only two miles south and provides wonderful eateries, shopping, entertainment, and recreation. Sunset and dolphin cruises, charter fishing, parasailing, jetskis and other water activities are available nearby. Two major malls are within 20 minutes' drive.
For wildlife enthusiasts, the wonderful Florida Botanical Garden only a few miles away offers plentiful viewing. An art museum and historic village are adjacent.
The area is well-known as a hatching region for the leatherback sea turtle, which can grow to be as large as a Volkswagen. Their nests are carefully protected by state laws. Additionally, the local residents leave their beach-side lights off or blinds closed during the hatching season to avoid confusing the hatchlings on their nighttime way into the waves. Volunteers with the regional aquarium patrol the beach daily to check on the nests and other marine life.
