traveler reviews for this grand haven house rental

September 2011 vacation

J.T. Butler (Michigan)
Review submitted: September 19, 2011   Date of arrival: September 10, 2011

For the major part of the stay it was pleasant. I appreciate the owners allowing our dog to be with us. The location was very nice the beach was just a narrow strip but you could walk all the way to Grand Haven which is nice. Grand Haven is lovely in Sept. Most all tourist have gone home and the weather was cool and comfortable. Always expect lots of wind at the shore. There is no washer or dryer here so bring enough clothes. One shower no bathtub which is fine for the majority of renters. The home was clean enough BUT just about every dish and piece of silverware needed to be rewashed (gross!). There was no dishwasher soap anywhere so we bought some. That just might have been a end of the season glitch but it was our time and money spent on that glitch. Overall I give the property a thumbs up. Beware of the long stairway to the beach might be a hazard for familys with young children or seniors.

Recommended for: families with teenagers, pet-friendly

Owners response: The lakefront is always changing and that makes things interesting. The Lake Michigan shore is a very dynamic place. The beach this past season was narrower than usual but there was still plenty room. In addition, early September brought a violent storm that moved a lot of sand. Storms coming over the lake are awesome to watch and we enjoy this almost as much as sunny days. Early fall is often more windy on the lake than the rest of the summer and fall days are usually warm and nights cool.
Our well water does contain some calcium that sometimes leaves white on the dishes and silverware when the dishwasher is used. We recommend adding a little vinegar to the dishwasher and that usually solves the problem. Our Lake Michigan well water is great to drink so there is no need to bring bottled water.
