About 15 minutes from Progreso. You can swing in one of the hammocks, drink cold Mexican beers or margaritas from the fridge, and watch the pelicans fly overhead. You can walk for miles on this beach and have it all to yourself on most times of the year. You’ll find an amazing number of different seashells in all shapes and sizes, plus a glowing sunrise and sunset each day. Chuburna is a sleepy Yucatan fishing village with some good seafood restaurants and plenty of peace and quiet. Scroll down to the bottom for more photos. This is not a fancy house with loads of media distractions, but it is quite comfortable and is located a few blocks from the town square. You can walk to every place in town from here and will just need the car to get to Chelem, Progreso, Merida, or beyond. A combi (minivan) service runs between here and Progreso on the half hour. (Note--at least a smattering of Spanish is required on this coast, or the ability to do well with a phrase book and pantomine!) Here's what past guests had to say: This is a wonderful house in a wonderful village. The people are extremely friendly and patient with those of us with poor Spanish. - Lynette and John - Nova Scotia, CAN What a wonderful house you have. It was perfect for us and our 18-month son. The people in Chuburna were extremely nice, especially when they saw our son Matt. Thank you for renting your place to us! - Kara, Mike, and Matt - New Hampshire, USA We came here thinking we’d spend some time at the house and then go trucking off to see the ruins and nearby towns. Boy were we wrong! We dropped our bags the first morning and are only moving them now to pack. - Meg and William - Guanajuanto, Mexico and California, USA What a wonderful week we had. Your home is quaint and charming and the pescado frito in the restaurant at the end of the block is amazing. - Mary and Barry - Michigan, USA Thank you so much for renting your beautiful casita to us. It was so nice to be here, to enjoy the peace, the calm, and the people. So much better than the tourist resorts: no one even tried to sell us a condo! The caretakers were great and the fish we ate was the best ever. - Dean, Paula, and Sandi - Alberta, Canada Often we were the only people on the beach. We didn’t have a car, but the bus service was very reasonable and enjoyable. (And it helped us work on our Spanish.) - Steve and Nancy - Ontario, Canada What a fabulous place to stay—the trip has been a perfect “Mexican experience.” This is something my children will always remember. - Brian and Courtney - Ohio, USA Vacation Rental AmenitiesThe house has one bedroom with a double bed, another with two twin beds, and a fold-out futon couch in the living room. There’s a large covered back porch with outdoor dining furniture and room for two hammocks (included). The well-stocked kitchen has a stove top, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, juicer, toaster oven, dishes, and all necessary cooking utensils. Bed linens, towels, and beach towels are provided. There is a small boombox for CDs or radio and speakers that accept an iPod or other portable input. There is no A/C—-almost no houses around here have it since the sea breeze is so constant. But there are ceiling fans throughout. Activities and AttractionsActivities are of the "kick back and be lazy" sort, but this area is 15 minutes from Progreso, 25 minutes from a flamingo viewing area, and 40 from Merida. It can be a good base for exploring the great city of Merida, lots of different Mayan ruins, haciendas, and more. Vacation Rental RatesThe best rates on this coast (if not all of North America)! $275 per week or $825 per month, except around Easter and Christmas. During Holy Week/Easter vacation and 12/16 through 1/6, the price is $350 per week or $950 per month. 75 percent of the fee is required to reserve, the rest to be paid upon picking up the keys. (Substantial refund offered with reasonable notice.) Payment can be made by check, PayPal, or American Express. Price includes cleaning before and after, as well as laundering of the provided linens upon departure. Preference given to renters with no pets, but ONE small dog or cat may be allowed--send details. Those with pets must put down an additional $100 pet deposit, to be refunded two weeks after vacancy.
