vacation rental description

Alii Hale is the owners' beautiful, part-time residence, located on
the Big Island of Hawaii, midway between Kailua-Kona and Keauhou on
Alii Drive. It is not another "cookie cutter" vacation rental condo
or house. Alii Hale means Royalty House in Hawaiian, which the
owners have adapted to mean a place of outstanding comfort. Alii
Hale was built to accommodate the owners' large family and friends
by
allowing separate living spaces for different family members. Alii
Hale is a long and narrow house, so no bedrooms or living rooms
share
common walls. One can have the television on in the living room and
not hear it in the bedrooms.
Alii Hale has everything, including a rooftop sundeck and Jacuzzi.
It has 3 bedrooms (2 with king beds and 1 with twin beds), 3
bathrooms, 2 living rooms (each with a queen sofa-sleeper), 2 full
kitchens, and 2 washers/dryers. The list of amenities goes on and
on. Alii Hale is extremely comfortable for a group of 6 people and
reasonably comfortable for a group of 8 with 2 of the guests using
the 2 sofa-sleepers. Alii Hale is a wonderful place to relax, but
the fax machine and 2 telephone lines allow one to stay in contact
with one's business, if necessary. The owners take great pride in
their home. When they cannot be in the land of Aloha, they welcome
others to enjoy Alii Hale. They regularly receive rave reviews from
their Alii Hale guests!
Across the street from Alii Hale is a small, secluded beach. It is
accessible only by foot. The beach is a wonderful place to soak up
the warm Kona sunshine and view the beautiful sunsets. The
snorkeling is excellent. Sea turtles and many colorful fish
frequent
the waters inside the rock reef, which shelter the small white sand
beach. This is a great "baby beach".
In addition to the beach, the owners chose to build Alii Hale in
this
location because one can engage in so many Kona activities without
driving more than 3 miles. It is close to restaurants, shopping,
many water sports, deep sea fishing, golfing, parasailing, etc.

house rental amenities

Alii Hale has 3 bedrooms (2 with king beds and 1 with twins beds), 3
bathrooms, 2 living rooms (each with a queen sofa-sleeper), and 2
full kitchens. Each kitchen has a side-by-side refrigerator-freezer
with ice and water through the door, dishwasher, stove top, wall
oven, microwave, and numerous small appliances. Each kitchen and
bathroom has granite countertops and oak cabinets. Alii Hale is
decorated in peaceful, tropical tones.
Alii Hale features a rooftop sundeck and Jacuzzi, air-conditioning
with individual controls in each room, a fax machine, a TV and
telephone in each bedroom and living room, a VCR in each living room
and the twin bedroom, portable CD player, and an outdoor shower for
after the beach. There is no need to bring too much with you,
unless
you just prefer your own items. Alii Hale has 2 washers/dryers, 2
irons and ironing boards, 3 hair-dryers, all liners needed, beach
towels, beach chairs, other beach items, children's games, videos,
baby stroller, no smoking, no pets, and many other amenities. Many
Alii Hale guests report that they have never stayed at a more
comfortable or better equipped place!

activities and attractions in Kailua-Kona The Big Island

In addition to tide-pooling, snorkeling and sunbathing at the little
beach across the street, there are many Kona activities with a 5
minute drive from Alii Hale, such as: golf; deep sea fishing;
snorkeling; swimming; scuba diving; parasailing; bicycling; jogging;
bowling; tennis; and other sports. There are also many fine
restaurants, delightful shops, and stadium style cinemas.
Alii Gardens Market Place, which is an upscale type of farmers'
market, is approximately 2 blocks north on Alii Drive. It is fun to
walk up the street and purchases fresh fruit for breakfast.
It is amazing how much low cost entertainment is available to people
who enjoy nature. For example, there is an excellent fish reserve
beach approximately 3 miles to the south of Alii Hale. Even those
who do not feel comfortable wading in deeper than their knees can
see
many colorful fish, and sometime, sea turtles. Bring your frozen
peas! Approximately 2 miles to the south of Alii Hale is a good
beach for experienced boogie boarders and body surfers. In the
morning, walking to Kailua is a great way to start the day. The
ocean views, chirping birds and warm Kona sun make this a memorable
experience. In the Kona area there are good children's parks,
historical sites, and hotel grounds to visit. After dinner, the
owners like to drive into Kailua, wall along the sea wall in the
tropical breezes and have a shave ice. Sometimes, there is free
entertainment at the Kona Village Inn Shopping Center. The free
hula
show at the Keauhou Shopping center on Friday night is fun. Another
favorite is soaking in the Jacuzzi on the rooftop sundeck in the
evening under the stars. Alii Hale guests rave about how much they
like Alii Hale and its location!
Alii Hale is also a good place to use as a headquarters for around
the island site-seeing. The expensive Waikoloa area is
approximately
30 miles to the north. Riding the free boats at the Hilton and
going
to the beaches in this area are definitely worthwhile expenditures
of
precious site-seeing time. Waimea and Parker Ranch are about 40
miles to the northeast. Waimea is ranching country at its best.
Hilo is on the other side of the island. Hilo is rainy, but has
fantastic flowers, gardens and a very small but extremely special
zoo. Hilo is a full day trip. The volcano is very educational. It
too is a full day trip.
While there is so much to do in Kona and the on the Big Island, it
is
very easy to become so relaxed at Alii Hale that all those
activities
just do not seem as important as they were when you planned them!

traveler reviews for this kailua-kona house rental

Great Location, Good Amenities

LindaHarr (San Mateo, CA)
Review submitted: February 22, 2011   Date of arrival: February 7, 2011

I stayed in Alii Hale in February 2010 with my husband, parents, and 3-year old twin boys. The location was very convenient to activities in town as well as trips south. And the house itself was clean, comfortable and well set up for our mixed-age group. When we did have a question about something, the on-site manager was easily reachable.

There were plenty of beach toys, mats, coolers, etc. to make trips out easier, and also some baby gear like a gate for the stairs, pack-n-play, etc. My boys occupied themselves well. The only thing that I would recommend to parents of the 4 and under crowd would be to bring doorknob covers - it would have been easy for enterprising kids to get out to the street. And the place could have easily slept an additional two people without cramping anyone's style.

The week we stayed, there was a high surf advisory in effect and the beach across the street was not a good place for little ones. However, there are a number of beaches within an easy drive.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car
