vacation rental description

150' of Private River Frontage.  Romantic get-away or rustic hide-away.  This is REALLY a special get-away cabin.

This quaint old cabin is located on 8 acres, and was built in the 1930s.  Recently restored, it features wood-burning fireplace, outdoor tub/shower hidden in the rhododendrons, wood-fired cedar hot tub with terrific mountain views.  Extremely private and rustic, filled with nostalgic period furniture pieces and appliances -- even the old Kelvinator.

NO TV, NO PHONE, CELL PHONES DON'T WORK -- This is a real get-away, tell'em you're on vacation and you simply can't be reached!! That'll be the truth.  Bring the scrabble game, and a deck of cards -- get to know each other all over again.

Walking distance from the Arthur Morgan School, only 6 or 7 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and situated on the South Toe River.  Celo is a well-known Quaker community, and this property shares a border with the quaker community's common area.  Lots of woods and creeks to explore.  About 10 miles into Burnsville.

The river is deep enough here for canoeing, kayaking, trout fishing, or swimming.

Unlimited hot water -- there's a claw-foot tub out amongst the rhododendron with a shower head -- only the squirrels will know you're there.

If you need McDonalds nearby, and cable TV -- this is NOT the place for you.

Back to Nature

Review submitted: October 3, 2010   Date of arrival: October 1, 2010

Made the reservation last minute but was welcomed with open arms. My wife and I walked into the cabin and felt instantly relieved of stress. My cells stopped ringing, no TV, no noise, just the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. This cabin was perfect. We spent two nights, did a lot of hiking on Saturday and in the evenings, relaxed in the hot tub and by the fire. We could have easily stayed a few.... weeks.

If you ever want to stay in a REAL cabin, in the REAL woods, this is the place for you to get back to nature and fill that void. We are both still in awe and thank David for making it such a pleasant weekend.

Private Romantic Getaway

Review submitted: May 24, 2010   Date of arrival: May 9, 2010

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Celo River Cabin. The online description is accurate, the property is very rural and rustic. This is an ideal place to go to get away from it all. We came in May, and at that time of year the trees and brush were full of leaves, such that you can not see the house from the road. It is a very sparsely inhabited area, about every five hours or so we heard a car pass by. The cabin itself, transports you back to another time, everything is antique, but very nice and functional. I would give one caveat to those interested, the cabin is not insulated. The first night we stayed it was unseasonably cold (30 degrees), and the cabin was rather chilly, though we were perfectly warm under the blankets. Also the only shower/tub is outdoors. It is surrounded by bushes and is a very private and unusual experience which we enjoyed. We found the property to be clean and well maintained. David stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed walking along the river and going to see a nearby waterfall. We have already recommended this property to our friends and look forward to our next stay!
