Quiet Coastal Retreat near Neskowin in Neskowin

Quiet Coastal Retreat at Cascade Head. This spacious house is located only steps from the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology at the base of Cascade Head. (It is not actually in Neskowin, but this website does not allow any other geographic options for the listing; it is actually 3 miles south of Neskowin.) Its proximity to a vast Nature Conservancy preserve ensures a peaceful stay amongst wildlife that includes  deer, elk, rabbits, porcupines and bald eagles. Guests will enjoy a pristine ocean view, miles of hiking trails, access to a community Riverhouse with a swimming pool (June-Sept), and boat launch, plus your choice of nearby beaches. The Cascade Head community sits at the last bend of the Salmon River estuary, an ideal spot for crabbing and fishing. Across the river is Three Rocks Beach, one of the coast’s hidden gems, as there are seldom more than a handful of people on it.

The house is situated above a meadow overlooking the estuary and the ocean. The expansive windows and deck take in the view and the afternoon sun. Indoor amenities include 3 full bathrooms, a master loft with a king bed, a large double-bed bunkroom with 5 bunks, and a private guest quarters with a fireplace and library. Features also include an open front room with a woodstove, a DVD/VCR library with large TV, laundry facilities, a garage, and of course a well-equipped kitchen with ample counter space.

The Cascade Head experience is for those who want more than just a “commercial” beach vacation. In a given weekend you might climb Cascade Head, go crabbing in the Salmon River, hike to the Drift Creek bridge, build a driftwood fort on Three Rocks Beach, maybe take a swim in the pool, then relax with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the front deck while watching the sunset. The possibilities are greater here than at most coastal destinations. The kitchen makes entertaining easy, but there are also great restaurants nearby in Otis, Neskowin, Pacific City and Lincoln City.

If you go you’ll likely need: Hiking shoes, river shoes, a bathing suit, fishing gear, and a canoe, kayak or small motorboat. The possibilities are many, so best to prepare for anything!
