house rental amenities
Outside, enjoy the unhurried serenity of oceanfront estate living and lovely gardens/grounds. Relax from the large deck (@ 50 paces walk outside), seaside adirondack chairs or hammock while listening to offshore bell buoys, smell the salt air, look for shells, watch a harbor seal swim by or an eagle pass overhead. Westerly views yield spectacular sunsets. His and her single speed bikes, inflatable row boat and outdoor barbecue.
activities and attractions in Bass Harbor Maine
Harbor Reach Farm is a 5 acre property of wooded waterfront. Andrew's Mom owns a similar vacant 5 acre wooded lot to the North. To our South is a 2/3 acre vacant lot that directly abuts hundreds of acres of Acadia National Park land and the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. Hence Harbor Reach Farm is very quiet, secluded and serene. Some guests rarely leave the property for their entire stay. They prefer relaxing on the beach, reading a book, watching boats and wildlife glide by, enjoying fantastic sunsets, etc.
The Western side of Mount Desert Island is very accurately referred to as "The Quietside". When the First Family visited MDI two summers ago, the Obamas spent part of their visit here, touring the Lighthouse at the end of our road, hiking the nearby Ship Harbor Trail and dining at a waterfront restaurant in neighboring Southwest Harbor. Nearby are the Wonderland ocean trail and Seawall picnic area, all part of Acadia National Park.
Bass Harbor has 3 restaurants with water views. Thurston's lobster pound on the Bernard side of Bass Harbor is a wholesale lobster dock that buys daily from local lobstermen. The Swan's Island Ferry and Little Island nature tourboat are a few miles away.
Southwest Harbor a about a 10 minute drive, where one can find more waterfront restaurants and lobster docks. The Library is well-stocked. There is a medium size grocery store, as well as a gourmet food store, drugstore and 2 Banks. Fishing, sailing, boat and kayak rentals are available. A mailboat takes passengers out to the Cranberry Isles several times a day. The picturesque Causeway Club 9 hole golf course welcomes all golfers.
Bar Harbor and the major sections of Acadia National Park are about a 30 minute drive. Most of the Park can be visited via the free Island Explorer bus system. There is a bus stop close to Harbor Reach Farm. Acadia National Park is the second most visited National Park in the U.S.
