Oceanfront Condo, Ground Floor Quiet Area - Oasis Del Caribe in Ambergris Caye

Our family of four stayed in this condo for a week over Spring Break 2013. Everything was great from the time we inquired until the time we checked out. Sari was always so responsive and helpful in answering all of our questions. When we arrived, Jesus the taxi driver was waiting for us just as promised. He showed us a little of the town and stopped by a local grocery store before taking us to the condo. The condo was very comfortable. The best part is the view out that front door! Right across the street is Action Divers and we used them to do two snorkeling adventures - talk to Erica if you go - she's super helpful and accomodating. Everything was within walking distance. Another great place is Wayo's Beachside Beernet just a few steps to the right of the condo. The owner and all of the bartenders are so friendly and be sure to take advantage of their happy hour - two for one rum punch that is very yummy! This was a vacation we'll never forget and we are already trying to plan our dates for 2014!

Lives Up to the Ad!

We rented the condo for New Year's week, and it was as cute as it looked. Nicely furnished, with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and excellent TV and WiFi service, which proved to be very valuable when my husband fell ill and wanted to stay inside one day. The pool is cold and refreshing after you bake in the sun for a while, and overall, it lived up to our expectations.

With just a few inexpensive changes, though, it could move up from good to excellent.

First, it would be really nice to supply arriving guests with a jug or two of water in the fridge. After a 12-hour travel day, we arrived exhausted and thirsty in the evening. But the tap water isn't safe to drink, so we had to go buy bottled water before we could do anything else. It would only cost a couple bucks, and I guarantee you it would mean a lot to late-arriving guests.

Second, the back bedroom door needs to be taken off the hinges and planed. It creaks loudly when you open or close it, a real annoyance for someone who gets up several times a night to use the bathroom.

Third, it would have been really nice to have beach chairs that we could have taken across the street when we didn't want to sit at the pool.

But overall, it was a great unit, and we enjoyed our stay there.

However, BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU RENT GOLF CARTS! We did not rent from the condo manager, as we probably should have, and ended up being victimized by scam artists who operate out of a small store right around the corner from the Oasis.

The last day of our stay, we awoke to find the golf cart had been stolen. We reported it to the store operator, who rents as Captain G's Rentals, and to the police. We were assured it happens all the time and they knew where to look.

However, at 6 p.m. on Friday night, less than 18 hours before our departure, the store owner, some relatives and a police officer committed nothing less than a shake-down against us, trying to force us to pay $15,000 to replace the cart and implying we'd be unable to leave the island if we didn't.

The experience involved intimidation and forced us to fork over $5,000 just so we could get out of the country. Unfortunately, it soured us on the idea of ever returning to Belize. This was our second visit, but clearly the explosion of growth in the past seven years has also meant a growth in con artists.

San Pedro is a great destination, but after what we endured that last night, we won't be back.

CONDO IS GREAT--AREA IS NOT

Condo itself is beautiful & sparkling clean, stays cool & sitting on the porch watching the ocean was delightful as we contemplated our snowy winter back home..Christina was wonderful coming to the rescue when Tropic Air did not show our prepaid flight reservations although booking agent Sari thru SS Solutions said she had made them..We had to pay again & got the refund credited to our card after more than 1 request.The neighborhood around the condo was not the "PicturePerfect" area as described I expected. The condo is the only nice looking place in this area..but even the town itself pretty poverty stricken. You can go to a resort for a better version of a beach but the sea grass was even too thick there for us to feel comfortable walking in..we saw 2 big stingrays resting there..locals were friendlly and we enjoyed some great meals, the bakery was wonderful but the area is just too 3rd world..go on You Tube and look around..I wish I had .Cant beat the view tho..description of PICTURE PERFECT should describe the ocean view only..5 stars for the property
