The cottage has exquisite views of Lake Macatawa, Eldean's Shipyard, and the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club. It is located on Holland's south pier, adjacent to Holland's "Big Red" Lighthouse.

The Pilot House is a cottage style condo, attached to a private residence. It features a private entrance to an upper, sunlit 2 bedroom unit with a fully-equipped kitchen, balcony level, vaulted roofed porch overlooking the captivating harbor life, a full bath, Maytag washer/dryer, cable TV, DVD, and high-speed Internet. Linens included. The gateway to private Lake Michigan sandy beaches is a simple, natural path along the channel.

Impressive, historic cottages, bike paths, natural trails,  tennis courts, beach volleyball, prime beaches, and close proximity to Holland (5 miles) and Saugatuck (7 miles) give this resort its sought after ambience. It is about a 50 minute drive to  downtown Grand Rapids.

June, July, August and early September:

Openings are by the week, Saturday to Saturday, beginning at $800 for early June rentals to $1,200 for peak summer weeks.

Summer weekly rentals require a 50% non-refundable deposit to confirm your reservation. 

September through May rents are by the month, under a 9 month lease. Contact Judith for rates & details.

So so stay

My family stayed for one week. The location is ideal, directly across from the state park. The pilot house is on the residential side of the lake, so no access to the state park, which is either good or bad depending on what you want. The beach is close, quiet, and wonderful, with great access to the freshly painted red lighthouse. There were a lot of spiders at the property, upwards of 30 perished indoors when we moved in. I don't recommend this rental unless you're willing to drive to things other than the beach. There's really nothing close by other than the beach so food, entertainment and sightseeing is something you're going to drive at least 15 minutes to see. Again, the seclusion is a plus or minus depending on what you're looking for. Other than the spiders we enjoyed ourselves and were reasonably comfortable.

Recommended for: families with young children

Owners response: We have carefully considered this complaint, and do agree there are many spiders in Macatawa in the month of August. We are very conscientious in offering a tidy, spotless rental. Although I beg to differ that there would be that many spiders indoors, or perhaps they considered the outdoor, unscreened porch as an extension of the interior, I will be extra vigilant in keeping the spiders at bay. In North America, only two kinds of spiders, the brown recluse and black widow, are truly harmful; they are extremely rare in Michigan, and by all means I would get rid of them. The good news is that in the presence of spiders 2,000 fewer bugs per spider will be there each year. Also, spiders love to eat mosquitoes, who actually want to eat you, but spiders only want to run away. Nevertheless, we are initiating new, non-toxic steps to limit their presence on the exterior, and certainly the interior.
Additionally, we are within walking distance of the Piper, a casual waterfront award-winning restaurant with a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Macatawa that offers an incredible dining experience. About a mile and a half, another local favorite, the Parkway Inn on South Shore Drive, offers great burgers, burritos, and dinners at modest prices.
You can also play tennis on private courts, play volleyball on the beach, fish off the pier, hike on dune trails, and bike on extensive bike paths.

Beautiful rental right on channel. Perfect for viewing boat traffic! Unbeatable location. Perfect rental for 2 couples or small family. The beach is fantastic with fun walk to Big Red light house. Owner has made every effort for enjoyable stay! Can't wait to return.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway
