Peaceful Retreat

Mom2Cheyn (Frankfort, KY, USA)
Review submitted: July 31, 2012   Date of arrival: July 21, 2012

From the start of booking this place, the owner was the best to work with. Any questions were answered promptly. The owner made sure we were prepared for a wonderful experience. The description was very detailed and accurate. What we saw when we got there was exactly what we saw on the internet. The property was clean and well maintained. The caretakers were very friendly and accommodating. The area is very peaceful. The lakefront is very clean and well kept. Fishing was great-even our young daughter was able to catch fish after fish right off the dock. The water was crystal clean. Shallow, gradual slope of the lake with no large rocks. The Zebra mussels are not as plentiful here as other places we have stayed, which made me feel better about my young daughter walking around in the lake.

Location, location, location. We were in the center of everything. To the north, the outlet mall near the thruway; to the south, we went sailing on the True Love Schooner in Watkins Glen. It is in the center of the largest two wine trails. You can walk to a nearby winery with others very close. Hiking is the best in that area (Taughannock Falls, Watkins Glen Park, several parks (gorges and falls) in Ithaca. In the other direction is Seneca Falls (also known as the inspiration for Bedford Falls-It's a Wonderful Life) and home to women's rights. Waterloo is the birthplace of Memorial Day and has the best Italian restaurant(Ciccinos); Jerlandos in Watkins Glen is right up there as well. The Cayuga Creamery is the best homemade ice cream ever with fresh, homemade waffle cones/cups - 2 miles up the road.

The owner has plenty of literature in the cabin to outline what is available in the area to do. If ordering food from Ovid, I preferred The Italian Kitchen over the other places there. The locals made that recommendation. The rural community is very friendly. We would recommend this place without a doubt. We hope it stays for rent for years to come as we would like to make this a regularly-visited summer vacation home.

PS: For ages 55+, there are a lot of steps going down to the lake. There is a landing to stop and rest. I did not have any trouble. Also, the long view to the lake is closer than it looks. Easy walk from cabin to the lake. From the picture, I thought it was further away than it is yet it is still a great front yard for kids to play safely away from the road - for what little traffic there is going by. A very lovely place.

Owners response: We knew you and your family would really enjoy the property and the area around it. We thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review for our future guests. It is the perfect guideline for those looking for a wonderful vacation in the Finger Lakes. We couldn't have said it any better!

Longview Guest House worth a visit

Review submitted: July 4, 2012   Date of arrival: June 23, 2012

The communication before our stay was excellent. We knew what to expect and who to contact. The place was clean, and the yard larger than we expected and more private. Each morning, we saw a large variety of small wildlife interacting on our porch. The view from the cottage looked out over Cayuga Lake. The road we were on was quiet. There was plenty to do and see nearby.

We would happily return.

Owners response: I am so glad that you had a wonderful vacation at Longview! We look forward to your return next year.

My husband and I chose to vacation at Longview for our honeymoon. Boy did we make the right choice. We had the most relaxing experience ever! Swimming in the lake, floating on the rafts, eating at all the neat places the surrounding towns have to offer. We recommend Kidders down the road for a good fried Haddock dinner! Each morning we woke up to see rabbits outside our front door just enjoying the dew covered grass and listening to the birds. The cabin is stocked with EVERYTHING you can imagine; pots, pans, paper products, spices, coffee pot, microwave... everything you could need. The cabin was sooooo clean and I just can't wait to return next year! We do recommend GPS for traveling through Ithaca if you are not familiar with the area. We had a lot of fun at the Museum of the Earth, Chocolate tasting in Trumansburg and ofcorse the falls. But we would have had as much fun if we just stayed in the entire time and relaxed by the water :)
