vacation rental description

Rent 2 BR/2 BA or 4 BR/4BA -- Brand new in 2009, "Salsa" and "Jazz Corner" have 2010 and 2040 square feet respectively, and 2 Bedrooms and 2 Baths and can be booked separately or rented together as a huge, 4 BR, double corner residence. All rooms open to indoor-outdoor living areas with spectacular Sea of Cortez and Estuary views from our convenient hilltop setting. There's a heavy, locking, alderwood door that separates or connects the two condos through the covered terrace.

Even at the front doors, you realize Salsa and Jazz Corner are a place of privilege. A place to get away from your busy home and office, to retreat to your own corner at the tip of the Baja. A retreat where you can brew & sip your latte while watching the sun rise over the estuary, the pale pink light filtering in and blending with the condo's vibrant Mexican colors.

Quilts, paintings, photographs, and custom furniture make it apparent that art lovers created these casually sophisticated surroundings. Glass doors disappear into pockets to open up to the comfortably furnished terrace for an ideal indoor-outdoor lifestyle and vantage point. The views and the location are private and serene, yet also convenient and exciting, from sunrise to sunset, from beaches to lush landscaping, from sparkling pools to city lights.

Sleeping accommodations are geared to the utmost comfort and flexibility. All mattresses are imported and top-of-the-line, with spinal comfort support and pillowtop luxury. Linens are imported, also, with Egyptian cotton softness and high thread counts.  Salsa's beds:  Eastern King or two XL twins in one master; two double beds (full size) in the other; day bed on the terrace.  Jazz Corner's beds: Eastern King in the master; Eastern King or two XL twins in the other. Each condo has a queen width (but slightly shorter) pull-out sofa in the living room.

Who Belongs at Salsa and Jazz Corner? If you want to park yourselves at the same spot in the sand every day for a week, this is probably not your ideal spot. Rather, Salsa and Jazz Corner delight those who prefer to sample lots of different activities and then get away from the crowd (and maybe even from too many hours of intense sun) to some luxurious peace and quiet (and shade with a view), with acoustical and visual privacy. We could have bought on the beach, but we thought Alegranza was better, offering so much more:

More Vistas:  From Sunrise over Punta Gorda and the Estuary, to the sparkling Sea of Cortez, boats, and beaches, to Sunset over Punta Palmilla; out over the hotel zone, the Alegranza pools and grounds, the night lights, and the twin spires of the historic mission town set against a backdrop of mountain peaks--plenty of ocean view, but not ONLY an ocean view.

More Space:  4,050 square feet, a terrace across the entire ocean side and wrapping around the corner, 10’ ceilings, bright and airy, the indoors opening wide to private outdoor terraces.

Higher Quality: Architectural design of high international standards; far above average, new construction; filtered water throughout the resort; GE Monogram appliances; travertine floors.

More Privacy: Alegranza’s 93 units are arranged so no one can see from one condo into any other condo, and ours are high enough not to be disturbed by foot traffic outside our windows.

More Eating Options: You'll have an upscale but moderately priced restaurant at the resort, room service, concierge-arranged in-home chefs, and a nearby grocery store plus a small deli at the resort, and a multitude of restaurants within walking distance. If you'd like to do some cooking, you'll be delighted that the kitchens are cheerful and well-equipped. The dishes range from toddler dishes to everyday quality to hand-painted Mexican Talavera pottery.

More Convenience:  Free high-speed Internet access, a color printer/scanner/copier for your use and washer and dryer in each unit, underground parking, and a concierge to arrange activities, optional airport transportation, grocery deliveries, and daily maid service. Port-a-crib and high chair available upon request. Easy access for strollers, luggage, toddlers, or grandparents:  elevator from underground parking straight up to our third floor.

More To Do:  from swimming, tennis, putting practice, saunas, and a fitness gym with yoga and Pilates right at the resort, to the nearby beaches, you can venture every day to a new activity, then return to the relaxing surroundings of Salsa and Jazz Corner. Mexican beaches are publicly owned, and you may spread out on a different one every day. There's easy access to the closest one--complete with palapas, between the Presidente and Mayan hotels. Salsa and Jazz Corner have some beach chairs and umbrellas, beach towels, coolers, and beach toys to take along. Also, Alegranza guests may get a day pass to an all-inclusive beachfront resort, with water park, spa, food and drinks (ask if interested).

More Relaxing: Kick back at  Salsa and Jazz Corner, enjoying our games, puzzles, pool toys, or books, 3 HDTVs per condo, DVD players and a library of great movies, plus National Geographic, History and movie channels--224 channels at Jazz Corner! Choose from our library of 75 CDs per condo or listen to your own music through the iPod docks and speakers indoors and out. Keep cool with ocean breezes, A/C with separate zones and multi-speed ceiling fans in each room.

Less Costly: All of this will cost far less than a smaller, lower quality, more crowded and less private, beachfront condo or hotel.

Our website describes many more local activities, so e-mail us for a link to that. Alegranza Resort wants to be your five-star home away from home.

activities and attractions in San Jose del Cabo Baja California

Besides going to the beach, go ride ATVs or horses, snorkel, surf (rentals and lessons are offered), fish, or go boating. (We especially enjoy sailing and kayaking.) You don't have to stay at a touristy hotel or crowded beachfront complex and give up your privacy to spread out in front of one, or to find a secluded spot along the miles of local beaches (especially wide and uncrowded between us and Puerto Los Cabos Beach by the new marina).

The nearest beach is 1/2 mile away. It adjoins a wildlife preserve with great trails and fascinating wildlife, and ATV tours start close by, too. The popular Palmilla Beach, where there is fishing, boating, swimming, and snacks, is 12 minutes away by car. It also has palapas and pelicans.

You can get your workouts in Alegranza's fitness center or pools, on the tennis court, or walking. Relax in a sauna, private jetted tub, or oversized outdoor Jacuzzis. Practice putting at Alegranza, or, for only $63, go play a par 3 course you can see from the condo. Visit one of the many local spas or arrange for pampering in the condo. We're also within a short drive of nine "Top Ten" golf courses, including the gorgeous Jack Nicklaus Palmilla Golf Course.

Your teens can have fun at the nearby skateboard park, also convenient for walking your dog. Take a day trip to the East Cape and amazing coral reefs. Spend a day swimming with dolphins or sailing, an evening in Cabo San Lucas, 17 miles the other direction, then get away from the noisy beach, bars, and cruise ships. And there are the new and extreme sports such as kite surfing and zip lining. Stroll with local families through San Jose's town plaza, visit the Art District.

Walk to town, many excellent Mexican and international style restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and video rentals.

Or just sit back, sip something cool, listen to music, and enjoy the panorama.

The Perfect Place for Families!

C (US)
Review submitted: November 22, 2011   Date of arrival: August 23, 2011

I simply could not have been happier with my stay in Cabo! As a family we rented both Salsa and Jazz Corner, and it was one of the best vacations I've ever had! I didn't know what to expect as this was my first vacation rental, but the property is much larger and even brighter in person. The photos don't do it justice. It feels like a home (and a very large one at that), which is such a nice contrast to a sterile hotel. There is so much space to spread out. You can be together when you want and then go off and take a quiet minute to yourself. The kitchens are stellar. We had so much fun cooking. They are thoroughly equipped with everything you could need. The bathrooms and bubble jet tubs make you feel like you are in a resort somewhere. And there are three pools and hot tubs on the grounds, along with a gym and a restaurant. I think this is an extremely versatile property. For large families you could rent both condos, for honeymoons you could just rent one, for a girls weekend you could do both and have a big group of girls down. And Cabo has everything from adventure sports to laid back shopping and dining. Whatever you are looking for, you will have a fabulous time here. Everything about the location was convenient too. It's such a quick drive from the airport and relatively easy to find. The property is impeccable. The staff on site are incredibly friendly and helpful. I felt so welcome. The best part is the deck and the view! We spent every single morning watching the sunrise with coffee. I could live in a place like this very easily. Simply put, I would go back in a heartbeat. Chris and Toby have created a really magical vacation home. They are the most thoughtful owners. And Chris was so helpful during the rental procedure! You couldn't ask for nicer people to rent from.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: What can we say but THANKS!? This group celebrated a birthday (ending in "0") as well as a very special Welcome Back to C's sister, who was returning from service in the Peace Corps. We were pleased to provide a venue designed with group celebrations in mind, and I really enjoyed getting to "know" C through our online and telephone contacts . . . I was only sorry that we didn't get to meet in person as my husband and I arrived the same afternoon they left.

Family Fun!

jorge (Salt Lake City, Utah)
Review submitted: March 10, 2011   Date of arrival: March 3, 2011

Our family of 8 adults and 4 not so quiet little kids thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay. The 2 units were as nice as they appeared in the pictures and even more spacious than I anticipated. The decks and the views of the town, beaches and ocean were gorgeous. I especially enjoyed watching the sun swim up out of the ocean. Lots of fun shops and dining within a short walk. We also enjoyed cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill on the deck. The 2 kitchens were very well equipped and the 6 tvs were great. Altogether, it was a wonderful place for a memorable family vacation. It makes me want to go back, maybe with just the adults (or what passes for adults)

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: These guests are one of the multi-generation families who typically rent our two adjoined condos. The set-up works well because grandparents, adult children, and the grandkids can all vacation together, but there are 2 living rooms, 2 kitchens, sound-deadening walls between them . . . and access is easy through the long, private terrace. This family's little ones inaugurated our new high chairs and port-a-cribs. Delighted they had a great time; we're grateful for their nice review, and hope they do come back to try the all-adult version as well!

Ideal Active Family Vacation with 4 "Kids" 19 - 26

Review submitted: June 8, 2010   Date of arrival: May 19, 2010

The combination of "Salsa" and "Jazz" for our family was wonderful. The vibrant colors and decorating were second to only the exquisite views. We enjoyed each day! Using our "new home" as a base, we enjoyed many adventures in the Cabo area. Our adventures included: Swimming with the dolphins, Zip lining at Wild Canyon, and Kayaking and Snorkeling at Land's End (with Casey from Cabo Outfitters). We also took lots of time to relax at Alegranza . . . and Medano Beach. The ability to prepare meals in a relaxed and well-equipped environment allowed us to enjoy family time which is often hard to do when we are back at home with our busy lives. No matter where you live, you'll find the views fantastic and currently the moon is sparkling onto the ocean water. Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us. We hope we can make it back soon.
