Summer Heights in British Virgin Islands

Summer Heights is your own private hideaway.  Nestled into the hillside, 500' above the ocean, on Tortola's south shore, once you enter through the main double doors you will find yourself  in such a relaxed and peaceful haven, you will never want to leave.  The view from the deck is one of the best in Tortola and offers an everchanging picture of the ocean.  If you are an early riser, the sunrise is magnificent and, at night, the clear uncluttered sky offers a wonderful opportunity for star gazing.

Entry to the villa is down a broad staircase of Mexican coral tiles which lead through the entry doors onto an expansive deck of crushed coral.  Here you find the swimming pool, lined with cobalt blue tiles, and a comfortable chat seating area which can be shaded by a retractable awning.  Adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen and bar, is a covered loggia providing a beautiful setting for casual dining.   The spacious lounge is furnished with comfortable, over stuffed sofas for lounging in front of the TV and a computer desk.  We have a new desktop computer with DSL & WiFi and a MagicJack that provides free long distance telephone calls to the USA and Canada.

Just along the deck from the lounge, are four similar, air-conditioned king bedroom suites. The two lower suites open onto a semi-shaded deck hung with a double hammock while the upper two suites open to private balconies.  The fifth suite is adjacent to the main entry and opens directly onto the pool deck..  This room also features a sitting area and a walk-in closet. All five suites feature a beautiful, teak king four-poster bed, ensuite bathroom and a magnificent ocean view.

Barry & Rosalind Rice, the owners of Summer Heights, personally built and now maintain the villa in immaculate condition.  Originally from England, they are now longtime residents of the BVI and have their own self-contained apartment tucked away on the east side of the villa.  For more than twenty years they have hosted guests aboard their beautful 72' sailing yacht, Endless Summer II.  If she is not on charter, ask about the possibility of a day sail to one of the neighbouring islands.  Barry & Roz are always available to offer advice on where to go and what to do.  However, they will respect your wish for total privacy if you so wish.  Roz has now "retired" from cooking on board ESII but, in order to enhance your stay at Summer Heights and give you a break from meal planning and cooking, has introduced a Meal Plan where you can have some meals catered during your stay.  Ask for details.

• Surfing - two surfer beaches at Apple Bay & Josiah's Bay are particularly good during the winter months
• SCUBA diving - arrange diving with one of the many dive shops in Tortola
• Hiking - Sage Mountain national park has trails through the rain forest
• Sailing - take a day charter to exlore the outer islands and find superb snorkelling
• Explore - visit the Botanic Gardens and the Old Government House museum, as well as other interesting places around the island
• Day trips - take a ferry to neighbouring Virgin Gorda or Jost van Dyke.  If you have time, spend a day in Anegada
• Dining out - there are several very good restaurants close by
• Or simply laze around the villa, sun bathe and do absolutely nothing!
