vacation rental description

Falls Branch Chalet is nestled in a small cove with a private waterfall that cascades down the granite ravine behind the home. The Falls Branch then flows alongside the back yard and by the house. The sound of water flowing can be heard year round.  We have a unique setting that offers privacy yet convenience to a number of attractions within a ten to thirty minute drive from the house. This is an original logging cabin from the 1920's and was also featured on the cover of Mountain Living magazine in the 1980's because of it's unique setting.  There is a variety of Heirloom and native flowers blooming for most of the year and  their are blueberry bushes growing along Falls Branch. A stone path leads you around the home to the granite boulders lining the ravine behind the house that glow at night from the phosphorescent lichen. The whole setting has good energy and it is truely a magical place. Like many of our guests once you have visited Falls Branch Chalet you will surely want to return. We also have lots of wonderful comments left by our guests listed on our website. Let us send you a link to it.

We also provide Direct TV Satellite service with the Family Channel line up. There are three televisions in the house and we also have a DVD Player in the Livingroom. If you like to have a fire to roast Marshmallows or Hotdogs then we have a firepit for you to use. We can also provide the wood should you plan to build a fire.  The fireplace is not yet equipped for gas logs.

The front deck has seating for two people and the back porch can seat four people. The back porch also provides an up close view of our 75 foot cascading spring fed waterfall in the back yard. Want to cool down then take your shoes off and dangle your feet in Falls Branch.

activities and attractions in Asheville Smoky Mountains

The local activities within a ten minute drive include The Chimney Rock Park and Village. Chimney Rock provides long range views, pic-nic areas, hiking, gift shop and an elevator within the mountain for those who want to go up to Chimney Rock without having to walk very far. The views expand out as far as 60 miles and below is Lake Lure. Here is a mountain beach on the lake and a small waterpark. You can also rent padel boats or a canoo. All along the Hickory Nut River leading to the Lake are shops and restaurants and all this is a short drive from the home. Drive back toward Asheville and you will find the Famous Biltmore House and Winery, the Blue Ridge Parkway for long scenic drives and of course Asheville. Most all areas are dog friendly with the exception of the Biltmore House itself. We have maps, brochures and local publications provided in the home for your convenience and to familiarize yourself with the area.

vacation rental rates

The winter rate begins on December 1st and last through April 30th. Sun-Thur is $85.00 per night and Friday and Saturday is $100.00 per night. Our Spring/Summer rate increases by $15.00 per day and begins May 1st.

We have a two night minimum with the exception of holidays and then it is a three night minimum. For holiday rentals there will not be any turn over dates allowed during these days. Check out will need to fall on the following day after a holiday.

Our winter/spring rate is $575.00 per week and the summer and fall weekly rate is $675.00 We also offer military and senior citizen discounts for our guests who qualify. We are flexible about Sat. to Sat. or Sun. to Sun. for the weekly rentals but Holidays are an exception. We will not be available to turn the house over on any given holiday. So, a guest will have to stay through that day and then check out on the following day. The holidays are Jan 1st, Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Please send me an e-mail or call if I can explain this in more detail.

The cleaning fee is a reasonable $65.00 and can be reduced if you bring your own bed and bath linens to $50.00. This covers cleaning the house, washing the laundry (unless you bring your own), carry away the garbage and a 40 minute one way trip to the house. If the futon is used an extra $10. linen fee is required to cover the extra wash load.

We are pet friendly and our pet fee is $10. per pet per day. However we discourage guests bringing puppies. We do not allow pets to be left alone in the home and a crate is available should guests need one. We also have a nice fluffy pet bed and mat to set their food and water on. Recently we had a guest leave two dogs in the house that chewed Milkbone dog treats while lounging on the Futon sofa/sleeper. It left a nasty mess and so we ask that our guests with pets to not let their pets sleep on the furniture or on the bed. If your pets are accustomed to slepping on the furniture or bed then just please bring another bedspread and something else to cover our furniture to protect it from excessive dog hair, etc...and then take the covers with you. If we need to do excessive cleaning because of this then the deposit will not be returned. Sorry about having to mention this but it is necessary for our guests with pets to realize the pet fee is for the priviledge to bring your pet with you.

We also require a security deposit of $75.00 for a weekend for guests without pets and it is $100. for guests with pets for a two to three day weekend. The deposit doubles for a week stay.  To rent this rental property the reserving guests must be 21 or older.

We loved the birds and flowers too. We left you a taste of Peach-Blueberry cobbler we made Carolina Peaches and Falls Branch Blueberries...Yum!

We hope to be bafck often.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with young children, pet-friendly, sight seeing

Owners response: We have a couple of Blueberry bushes that grow along Falls Branch which is just a few feet from the backdoor of the chalet. This guest stayed while the blueberry's were in season and we are happy to share them. The cobbler was delicious and how thoughtful for this guest to leave it for us. Thank You!

Weekend Get Away

Weekend travelers (Albemarle, NC, USA)
Review submitted: November 6, 2011   Date of arrival: November 4, 2011

My husband and I got away for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. The cabin was the perfect place to relax and spend time together. It was such a peaceful place and so cozy. We loved the home feeling of an older house that had all the comforts that you could want. We really enjoyed the sound of the waterfall and all the little birds flying in and out of the falls. Thank you Sheila for a wonderful weekend and for sharing your cabin with us.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: We just love sharing the chalet with our guests. I am happy to hear that your husband could relax and enjoy his birthday while at the house. Thank you for taking such good care of our vacation home and guests like yourself is what helps us to tolerate an occasional disgruntaled guests comments. We really appreciate your thoughtful words here on the site and also in our guests book at the house. Thank You!

Nice location but not so nice cabin

Marilyn (Burt, MI)
Review submitted: November 2, 2011   Date of arrival: September 28, 2011

Beautiful scenery at this cabin, as the drive to and from was a scenic byway.
However, the cabin had dirty carpets, smelled of mildew, has very low ceilings and a rickety sounding floor. I do not recommend this rental.

Owners response: I have been very dissapointed in this guest who arrived with her husband and two dogs. We are very pet friendly and rarely have issues with guests with pets as we provide a big dog bed, extra towels to clean dogs with, a crate so as not to leave them to roam while guests are away and a few other items for the pets. I do have a $100.00 security deposit for guests with pets and that is to cover extra cleaning or minor damages and early cancellations. I also charge a pet fee that is for the privelege of haveing pets with their respective owners. The fee does not cover excessive cleaning. I realize that some dogs like to hang out on the furniture and I have a sticky tape roll for hair that won't vaccume up, I always need to vaccume twice and I sometimes have to toss poo out of the yard. Don't mind doing this at all. However I do mind having to shampoo the carpet unexpectedly and on the same day I have more guests checking in and I do mind having to clean Milkbone goo off of every piece of furniture and I also don't like to have to change a washer in the hot water knob of the shower that was tightened so tight it broke and we were not told about this either. I always leave a note asking to be notified if our guests have any questions or concerns or if I need to fix something when I return to clean. Never heard from this guest all week and she also abused the PayPal protection policy by placing a dispute and hold on my account for half of the stay. It was for over $400.00. That was quickly resolved because I have pictures and witnesses as to how filthy the house was. Not to mention a signed rental agreement. I had guests check in after this person with two dogs and after they checked out I couldn't even tell they had been their. They also left a wonderful note in the guest book about how clean the house was upon arrival. With all this said I expect a negative review from this guests because she has threated to notify the appropriate agencies. I did keep the $100.00 deposit and for obvious reasons.
